Looking for kilner type jars, about 1litre size. Have seen them on ebay, but don't want to pay the postage.
Have tried charity shops, but ours are pretty pants.

Hmm... there are a few sources listed in an earlier thread - you might just save on postage if your order is big enough...

Lakeland definately sell them. I bought half a dozen of the half litre ones a couple of weeks ago. I also bought some spare rubber seals, which proved to be very useful as the following Sunday I managed to pick up six more of various sizes across two car boot sales.Enjoying an MSE OS life0

sadly, our nearest Ikea is Bristol, a two-hour trip!
Will give Lakeland a go at the weekend.0 -
IKEA 1l are £1.49 each.
I also saw some in a local poundland - so assume they were a pound each (!) , but those shops tend to be a bit random....0 -

I have just ordered 33 1lb jam jars with lids for £20.0 -
Don't forget that any jar which has previously been used for preserving veg may well be suitable for home bottling. providing you've kept the lid and the inner seal looks in good condition.
I've re-used the jars and lids from jars of olives and chargrilled red peppers from Lidls. I've also reused pickled onion jars. Depends if there is any smell left after they've been through the diswasher but the gooseberries I did earlier this year look fine and the apples, plum, blackberries I did this way last autumn also seem fine.
You can tell if the lids have sealed as they go concave in the middle and are difficult to open.
Re-using jars which have previously been used for preserves is much the most environmentally friendly thing to do and is also moneysaving. If you haven't got sufficient yourself don't be afraid to ask around. I had a box of 18 honey jars left by a neighbour earlier today and once I've soaked the labels off they will be fine for jamming. I can't understand anyone ever buying jam jars.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
