You can still get caps and tops, Beach, from any traditional ironmonger shops. In fact my local place are stocking a whole range under different names.
If you don't keep and use them yourself, any church or W.I will take them off your hands.

If you do go and get the rubber gaskets from Lakeland, make sure you know what size you need, because they do several and I got the wrong ones.

Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

Actually I've just seen a lovely preserving jar/bottles.
It has a kind of loose clip which keeps the glass top and rubber.
I don't think these photo does any justice but here is the link. It's different anyway.

I know it's an old thread but......

I've been given some blue 'kilner' jars, they're not the usual squarish shape but rounded with bobbly sides (I'm not really selling them am I ?!) There's no markings to say kilner or anything else for that matter. They've got the rubber seals that ordinary kilner jars have so I'm going to replace the seals as they've perished.
How would I know if they're suitable for, say, preserving fruit? I know I've heard of ones that look like kilners but they're not suitable for serious use only for storage of teabags etc.

Our local Poplars garden centre does them.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Morrisons in Festival Park, Stoke sell them, no idea if that's going to be a national thing though.
  • I know this is an old thread but try www.preservingjarparts.co.uk for all Kilner spares.
