Sloblady thread

Last night I spent an evening with a woman whose son I've always wanted to marry. She is a domestic goddess who puts Delia Smith to shame. After a conversation about laundry sorting protocol which, quite frankly, I had to bluff my way through I decided that if I ever wanted a chance with her son then I better well and truly pull my socks up (if I could find them somewhere).
I intended to start today. At 10am I stumbled out of bed. After preparing breakfast and making Leek and Potato Soup whilst bread baked in the oven (washing up as I went along), I decided if anyone could help me turn things around and become the perfect Stepford Wife, it would be the Old Stylers. I then discovered this thread and read the whole blumming thing. Oh and I'm still in my PJ's. Might as well stay in them now, save on the laundry.
I think, for me, finding this thread has been an epiphany. Deep down inside I've always knew that I was a Sloblady, I just didn't know there was a term for it. I am not quite sure how to tell my parents, but I think they have always suspected. I "pretend" to be a domestic goddess but really I just shuffle stuff from room to room. I too have a Floodrobe and also a Topofthebedrobe and a Hangingfromthepicturerailsrobe but since I found out about the clothes having a fear of heights I will stop doing this as I hate cruelty.
I don't actually mind ironing because I sit on the sofa, lower the ironing board as far as it can go and iron whilst watching telly. It hurts my back doing it standing up. But since getting my ipad I haven't had time to iron really so I leave it until I am going out, hang my clothes on the heated towel rail and turn the shower up to the hottest setting - the steam makes the wrinkles drop out of the clothes, its great for your skin, the grime slides off the tiles, windows and mirrors thanks to the condensation and its the optimum time for getting the dust bunnies off the floor as they get a bit damp and clump together easily. Also, I have an over the bath shower so the bath gets a bit cleaner too.
I'm dreading tomorrow as I have to clean the car as its going in for its service on Monday. I stopped cleaning it after hearing the saying "the hotter the girl, the dirtier the car". Needless to say, I must be pretty damn hot because my car is filthy.
I did try FlyLady and for a while it did help as no one ever told me you had to clean the sink. It was a bit of a novel concept, having to clean something that you clean something in... To be fair, I was only young at the time and my Mum hasn't taught me much. I'm 29 now and hoping to clean the oven for the first time before I'm 30...0 -

Now that is interesting... as previously mentioned, I'm of the sturdily-built persuasion and rather plain looking as well (think Nora Batty) but given the state of my car just before I had to replace it, I must be underestimating my hotness
The "new" car is pretty clean and tidy still, apart from a light dusting of pumpkin seeds that resulted from eating them for breakfast in the car and a sudden stop incident. It'll be interesting to see if I manage to hoover them up before they sprout.
Edit: I only have a halogen oven now, no full size cooker - in true sloblady style, the halogen oven cleans itself (there's no "smirk" smiley but picture one here) but when I had a cooker, I only ever tried cleaning the oven once. It was a total waste of time, within a week or two it was right back to being the health hazard every self respecting sloblady should aspire to.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Its a shame that you had to get a new car... You must have been super hot when you had your old one. I mean sprouty things are always good but, in the way of tips to maximise the whole dirty car/hot girl thing, i'd definitely say aim to eat and drink in your car as much as possible - especially fast food which is great as you also don't have to cook or wash-up after. I quite often "forget" to throw away my rubbish after I've eaten lunch in the car (why don't they have Drive Thru bins?) so I just stow it under my seat. The remains of a Subway salad are particularly wiffy after a good three days or so. Also cakes and crisps leave crumbs everywhere (think gear stick) and I'm always spilling coffee everywhere. I owe alot of my hotness to Starbucks and McDonalds. So people don't think I'm a total skank, I like to keep some cuddly toys on the dashboard. They are also good for mopping up dust when I do have to give someone a lift. I also keep a can of air freshner in the back in case of having to give someone a lift at short notice. I apologise for the state of the car by saying that it got in a mess when we went to Center Parcs and I'm about to get it Valeted. We went to Center Parcs last year. And I didn't use the car once all week.
Thanks for the tip re the oven. Maybe I should just ask for a Halogen one for my 30th and then I'll never have to clean an oven? Still "Clean the Oven" is one of the things on my bucket list so it wouldn't hurt to do it once.0 -

It might hurt ... should you risk it?I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

Well, if it does hurt then I've got the perfect excuse for never doing it again and if there is one thing I've learned from this thread is that behind every great sloblady is a great excuse (or several dozen). But thanks for warning me in advance about the pain, I'll take an ibuprofen an hour before, thats what they recommend for a bikini wax and I'm guessing that in terms of trauma they would be quite similar.0 -
Clean the oven!!!
I make sure they are self-cleaning!
This reminds me I need to turn the damn thing on to clean itself. We no longer have small rodents in the house (I read somewhere the fumes can kill hamsters, so I couldn't do it while there was one I the house).
Wait it's summer, and turning it on will make the house too hot, so I'll need to leave it until October/November, maybe just in time for Christmas?0 -

I don't think you are thinking this through clearly enough, if you clean it before Christmas then its a "high traffic" time for the oven so its going to get dirty straight away and you will feel the need to do it again. I really think you should leave it until 1/1/14 - have your New Years dinner, then put the oven on to self clean. New year, new start and all that jazz...0 -
Ovens need cleaning?
No. No, I would have seen something about it on the TV. If David Attenborough hasn't done a documentary on it, it isn't real. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
