That sounds a bit wasteful. I scoop up the spillage and put it back into the bag. Extra breadcrumbs on my cereal isn't a problem - and I think they dissolve in Marley's coffee!

  • What a fabulous thread... I've found my home at last!!

I hate housework/ironing/cooking and do the minimum I can get away with. We are trying to sell the house so it has been subjected to an unusual amount of cleaning/tidying/decluttering over the past few months. Indeed, today I actually picked up the iron and ironed some of my clothes; hubby asked me if I wasn't feeling well!

My tips for this thread are: don't bother making your bed in the mornings. You're only going to get back in it in 12 or so hours' time (or in my case, 5 hours as I have an afternoon nap). When you change the sheets it can be made properly (every 10 days or so).

If you're having friends/family for dinner, use thick paper plates and the disposable wine glasses/tumblers. Saves loads of time in the kitchen washing up - you can use that time to socialise with them instead.

Don't bother sewing hems up on trousers - either wear them as turn-ups or cut with pinking shears for that nice zigzag look. Or cut with normal scissors and let them fray naturally to create the 'beachcomber' look.

If your curtains are too long (as my lounge ones are) don't bother taking the hems up, just tie a big knot in the bottom of them for a trendy effect. (Ours have been like this for about 5 years now: I fully intend to shorten them and line them with fleece blankets to keep the place warmer. A job that is still on the 'to do' list 6 months after buying the fleeces)

Don't bother turning your clocks back/forward when British Summertime kicks in. It will only be another few months before they'll tell the right time again.

That's all for now folks.... keep them coming, this thread is hilarious!!!

I staple them up, usually about 2 minutes before I head off to work, if you do them from the inside, and staple vertically, they are hardly noticeable - even less so if you can find a black permanent marker and go over the metal bits (dark trousers only - obviously, I ain't that slobby).

I find hairgrips work quite well too, and have been known to make use of paperclips. I think just about every skirt I own has the hem safety-pinned up. Usually the first place I go looking when OH needs a safety pin for something (usually removing a splinter!) :rotfl:

    I have stapled clothes!

You can take clean, wet tights out of the washing machine, put them on and towel them dry, if you can't be bothered to put them on the airer the night before. It isn't very pleasant though.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Hands up who knows how to use an iron? I dont. Gods greatest invention was non iron shirts.:D

I dont even own an iron.... 5 minutes in the tumble dryer is usually enough.

I have to say hubby has a few nice shirts. I glare at them each time i open the wardrobe to put his clothes away (good job they only come out on special occasions and the next time no doubt i'll have to buy an iron).

Having said that... i do love a man in a shirt but he has to iron his own clothes.:rotfl:

My problem is that I love all things "clean" and "organised" - unfortunately this is a cerebral rather than physical love.

A few years ago I was given a copy of The Cleaning Bible by Kim and Aggie. It's well read......

Mentally I get all fired up and am full of good intentions....then ......not a lot until the next bout of book or magazine inspiration.

The Flylady thread gives me the heebie jeebies, the first time I ventured into it, I thought, this is the life for me! And was full of enthusiasm but just thinking about it meant I had to go and have a sit down.
