Hey there, awesome thread, can I join? I don't have 13 things on my list as of yet but I've set myself the challenge of all my gifts this year to be handmade so hopefully I should be able to do this in the process?!

    So far I have:
    1) Owl messenger bag (in progress)
    2) 1st wedding anniversary papercut
    3) Clutch bag
    4) Skull cushion (not sure if I'm going to do it cross stitch or knitted yet - watch this space)
    5-13) Thoughts in process :D

I'm going to be trying my hand at bath products too, and some foodie gifts, but won't be including these in the count :) xx

personally we have the argos value one. for what we use it for light infrequent jobs it suits us fine.

if you are after a more heavy duty one this wouldn't be for you.

No idea of prices but I have had a Pfaff machine for years- well two actually! The first one is nearly 40 years old & mechanical, it will sew nearly anything including layers of denim & leather. The second (bought to replace the first!!) is computerised and not so strong but does loads of fancy stitches - they have both done sterling service.

People who take needlework/ sewing classes used to recommend Bernina.

ha ha...just seen the prices of both these on line.....not exactly budget. Of course it does depend what you want it to do. I would think straight, zigzag and a stretch stitch (for jersey fabrics) as a minimum.

When I bought machine number one I went to a specialist machine shop with a price idea in my mind and I played with various different machines for probably a couple of hours. If possible I would recommend a hands on session.

i have a new home sewing machine DH bought it for me from lewis about 30 years ago, wasnt cheap but money well spent. i used to be a machinist BC (before children) so made loads of their clothes when they were little and even made a few of my own. havent made clothes for a while but it gets used regularly.

finished the cross stitch prt of my current project and started the back stitch last night

I would totally include those in the count. All 'making things' are some form of crafting to me.

:) Welcome by the way and to all the other newbies. :)

Gutted, It was sold out within hours in every branch I looked in just before crimble and was £79 I think. It seemed to look really good. Hoping they bring out another soonish.
  • i've found an old fleece top that would be ideal for washable baby wipes so im going to use to to make some trial ones and see how they turn out - will use them for cleaning when there done lol but that way can trial weather i need them bigger or smaller etc in preparation for when i make the real ones .... wish me luck :D
