Young Female Drivers Car Insurance

Trying to get best car insurance quote for my daughter (17 years) who hopefully passes her test later this month. The quotes have gone through the roof, in December I was able to get for just under £2,000, now they are near £4,000. I know the law changed re sexual discrimination between boys and girls, but seriously this is ridiculous. Also notice a lot of the tips Martin has listed, such as adding experienced named drivers such as myself and her dad, are no longer making a difference. Not sure how the websites have been updated to take account of the change but it's definately not right, how do we get it sorted???

What do you mean by sorted? The only way to change the situation that now prevails is for Eurpoean legislation to change, you could start with your MEP but I expect your daughter will be looking for insurance for her own children before anything happens!

If what you want is a cheaper policy then you could try a decent broker to see what they can find that might not be available through the websites.

I suspect you will find that in a month or so insurers will start competing again, at the moment, they are raking in mega profits, so if you can hold off, wait a month or so, and premiums will drop.

it's nothing new. To add my wife onto my insurance policy took it up to £3000.

    We gave up trying...

Blame the Belgian consumer group who brought the claim - clearly not aware of what group they were representing.

Not really. Its what boys have had to pay for some time. Welcome to equality.

Does make me smile when women demand equal rights & treatment and then moan when it doesn't go their way :rotfl:

Just what I was about to say.

My mate is 20 and passed his test at 17. He's not been able to drive a car since passing and even now, his premiums exclude him from the possibility of getting a car. How anyone can imagine that three years away from the driving seat is somehow safer is beyond me!

If it puts your mind at rest, OP, his quote when he passed his test for an E reg 1.0 Fiesta with a value of £100 was £4722. Welcome to equality, hope you like it!

No problem with girls having the vote, but being penalized because you're the male of the species is just a little smelly to me! I'm not insane enough to be too politically correct; if it was women having to pay more on insurance due to the stereotype of doing makeup while driving or not being able to parallel park, there would have been a lot more bad noise about it before now!

(For the record, I haven't seen women do makeup while driving at least in the last 10 years, however it's true that my other half can't parallel park for toffee!)
