Are people entitled to book unpaid leave to have teeth out

suggests he takes as sick leave as per your sick leave policy, he can do that anyway and self cert for one week!
Must be feeling rotten, toothache is awful.0 -
Ok well our staff are happy, treated well and fairly and get more paid holiday than most of their friends. We have a great team and they like working with us. We took all of them for big night out with fab meal and drinks all on us the weekend before Xmas and they all get Xmas presents from us, wine on their birthday etc as well as me bending over backwards to give them specific days off for special occasions, appointments, children's school activities etc.
Times are much tougher than when we first had the business and I'd love to JUST be Mr Nice guy but for the benefit of their jobs and mortgages as well as ours I have to balance nice and sensible.
If their friends work full time then either you are mistaken or the other companies are breaking the law as you by law have to give statutory holiday of 5.6 weeks (28 days which can include BH's) to full timers.Don't trust a forum for advice. Is this the excuse your using to try and get your staff member to use his holidays?
This has nothing to do with the time of needed for his operation or are you saying you don't want him to claim ssp?
No it was my response to the post saying we are a horrid employer and to be avoided like the plague.
I don't mind SSP one bit. If off five days he'd qualify for two days SSP as from memory three days are qualifying days. We pay full pay for ten sick days per year (again more than many small business employers) altho the first two days of any period of abscence are unpaid. He didn't ask to go off sick he asked for unpaid leave. Nobody has ever asked me in advance to be off sick to be honest but if that is what we should legally do we will.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -

Go sick or take holiday.
Since you say he is not allowed holiday then he can go sick and if you pay for sick then he wont be short only the 2 days at the begining. We’ve had to remove your signature. In your scenario the teeth time off would paid. The days they work to "make the time back" would be unpaid.
So if they are off for 5 days paid for teeth. Then "make up" 5 days unpaid then have 28 days paid hol that is...
28 paid days plus 5 paid teeth days giving 33 paid days then minus 5 "making up" unpaid days gives 28 days paid time off including teeth days. Just same as taking teeth days from their holiday. See?
If you think they'd rather call it making the time back that works for me!
What I needed to check was whether legally planned app like this dictates sick leave and if so obviously I can't ask them to make time back or take as hol.
Thank you for trying to work out my holiday's but you have your calculations wrong, I get 32 day's not 28.It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

He is ok don't worry. I don't have him in work dosed up & in pain for the next three months! The wisdoms are pushing into his other teeth pushing two to overlap so wisdoms coming out.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -

Eh?? I have suggested the holiday!! Why are you saying I've said he's not allowed holiday. I am now getting shot down for not suggesting the thing I suggested.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
In most jobs you have to use holiday for all appts
I have never experienced this in any of the full time jobs I have had in the last 30 years, all the medical or dental appointments I have attended during work time have been allowed as paid time off.
Most importantly they have always been allowed without question.
I realise this is not a right and where possible I try to minimise impact on the business by booking non urgent appointments at the start or end of the day or at off peak times.

I wasn't working out your holiday. I was saying that both financially and in terms of hours worked our employee "making back the time" for 5 days off for teeth is exactly the same as if they took 5 days holiday for teeth op. I really don't see that my calculations on that are wrong - although you have me doubting my maths now :-(MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -

Maybe you should have said that as you can refuse any holiday any time you like regardless but that will just mean the person will call in sickWe’ve had to remove your signature.
