HDMI Connection.

Options
I have recently changed over to a FreeView HD system box with an old TV.
The reception is perfect but each time after shutdown the source seems to change back to "TV" instead of "HMDI 1" connection so I don't get any picture.
I have to go into the TVs AV settings and change back to HDMI source before I regain the picture. This is tedious!
Anybody know how to "lock in" the HDMI connection into my system so it is shutdown proof?

I think this will depend on whether your TV supports auto-sensing of the HDMI input. There are certainly autosensing HDMI switching boxes available....

The spec for SCART-enabled TVs often included this for one or more of the SCART inputs - if a voltage was present at the appropriate pin, the TV would autoswitch to that input.

Have you got the TV user manual to hand? That's where I'd look first. If that's not available, google for "(TV make and model) user manual pdf"

What TV do you have? Make and model? On my Panasonic there's an option called 'power on preference' where you can set what connection it defaults to. I know some TV's have a 'hotel mode' which is essentially a secret way to lock the TV to a particular input.
• Hi, Managed to solve problem by fiddling around a little!

My tv is quite an old Phillips flat screen but does not seem to have any preference source lock in mechanism ( hotel setting?)

The following techique worked for me.

1. Change resident setting from TV to HMDI 1 manually using TV remote. Click OK.
2. Switch on power button of TV but DON'T touch any other TV remote buttons.
3. Switch on HD box using its own remote and, hey instant HDMI connection which now seems to be locked in as it does not revert to TV anymore. I have tested many times from a cold start and it starts immediately with HDMI source!

Happy days are here again!.

Many thanks for your help and I hope my simple recipe stops someone from a frustrating morning!

Update;;Just checked TV manual it says it,s HDMI source1080 ok, if problems, contact source manufacturer???
• If the TV is not auto-sensing the HDMI (or Scart) connection it's probably defaulting to display the TV's own built-in Freeview SD tuner. There'll be no picture because you don't have an aerial connected to the TV, which you don't need anyway.

Is there an "Input" selection on the TV's remote that you can toggle?

Hi TOG, thanks for reply, pulling my b888y hair out, said I would regret buying it::rotfl:
1;Didn,t plug and play;
2;phoned supplier, said change source on tv to hdmi 1, did that;if that didn,t work, refer to i-can website help, done that, much use a a chocolate teapot. no number ,
3. when I now switch tv on, HDMI 1 comes up,in box,HD box goes green , after unplugging and back in again, then the i-can page comes up, with icons, press ok, it should auto tune, according to manual, but box just goes to standby, red, and tv displays, NO VIDEO AVAILABLE? Is it me.:D
• Ok ,so you've now figured how to select the HDMI 1 input on the TV and can get as far as the digibox's set-up menu displaying.

From there, is there an option in the on-screen digibox menu to manually search for channels?

• What's the make and model number of your digibox?

The i-can screen stays on , for a second at most, just enough time to press ok. It then goes off , back to standby, no search, then display, no video available, digi on red, will not react to remote.
The display screen isn,t on long enough to select anything, it goes off and box back to red, standby It,s SH-WC-GBR-2851T GBR285IT Freeview HD Digital Receiver with BBC I-Player
