Afternoon all.
No leftovers from last night (cooked the right amount), so had to get some lunch from Mr S - 2 for £5 TTD ready meals - not great, but I got no inspiration there and had to rush to get to work. Also diet coke and chewing gum - £1.15
On a more MSE note - I finished the last of the jar of jam on toast this morning. Next on the list to use is Nutella, which has been in the cupboard for a while and my housemate can no longer eat (he was the one who bought it). At least I get the sweet treat in the morning instead of dessert in the evening now.Grocery Challenge Jan 24 0/300

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update. Went to Co$tco today and got a 5kg of caster sugar for the pantry - it was £5.79, so I will add that to my GC total in a tick. Other purchases were from 2nd purse and easier to allocate a buyback price for!
Dinner tonight is sc beef in with port and stilton. The house smells lush!
Back later

I think my panny breadmaker is terminal:eek: The last few loaves have come out flat on top and with a dense structure. No change in recipe or ingredients and fresh packet of yeast made no difference. I was telling DH about it and we reckon it gave us 5 years of service making at least 2 loaves a week. We got it second hand from ebay. Honestly it's like a death in the family everyone was standing around the machine waiting to see if the last loaf turned out okay!
I will need to get another one ASAP. Don't like making bread by hand, I can't seem to knead properly without hurting my wrist and I hate the sensation of dough under my fingernails.
RIP panny SD253 you were much loved."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0 -
No spend day yesterday thanks to the snow and sleet!
Spent £3 today at £land, got plastic tubs for freezing my batch cooked portions, 1.5L of milk (750ml cartons so one for the fridge and one for the freezer) and a packet of coconut cakes to have with tea when my fianc! comes over later.
Yesterday I cooked my lamb leg, got 4 portions of lamb curry, 2 portions of doner kebab and 6 portions of thick sliced lamb which I've frozen with hm roasters and some mashed carrot.
I meant to ask can you freeze cooked cabbage or is that a disaster?0 -

I want to have a go at making some rolls today. I don't know why but I got the idea of weevils into my head so on examining my flour VERY closely I can see tiny microscopic black dots. Is this just the flour or do I have an issue? My OH said just to use it as even if there is something in the flour it will be harmless by the time its cooked...... There is nothing moving in the flour so I'm not sure if I'm just looking too closely and seeing something where there is nothing - I don't think it looks any different from the rest of the flour I've used in the last 10 years. Maybe I've been eating weevils all that time...... Any thoughts?1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

Hi everyone. Been a quiet few days, but I have been sticking to my menus and planning with my pantry ingredients.
I tried the salmon and broccoli bake on Monday- it was delicious!! Planning on a pasta bake tonight.
I have decided that if I remain focused on my budget, any underspend can go into my sealed pot. Fingers crossed.. :j
Updated my signature with this months spend. So far so good. Let's hope it continues :rotfl:sealed pot member 100. Saving for a dream holiday for 6!!

I'm pretty sure they are bigger than microscopic, I think you are seeing things that arent there.
I've just googled some pics, definately bigger than microscopic. Don't google it, it will put you off eating flour :rotfl:Can't think of anything smart to put here...0 -

Second this, I spent a year in Africa and these pests were very common, putting your bag of flour in the freezer will kill them off
as will cooking, just dont think too hard about it:rotfl:Slimming World at target0
