DIY'ers

hey ladies and gents,

are any of you doing anything yourself, projects etc. Thought it would be a good idea to put all the DIY ideas in one thread - pictures aswell if you have any.

I am planning on making these myself :-

Bridesmaids bouquets
Invites
Flower girl sashes
Table Plan
Perfume favours
Seed paper hearts
Kids activity bags - including activity book and an I spy fan
Basket of flip flops
Paper pom poms (if venue allow)
Overnight guests goodie bags
Bathroom baskets
Candy Buffet

And thats all i have thought of for now :rotfl:

I have already bought the flip flops and tied them up in ribbon just need to decorate my basket, ive bought the bottles for the perfume favours, ive done the kids activity books (just need to print them out) and ive bought a few jars for the candy buffet. Weve done the outer part of the invites, were having pocketfold ones so just need to print the insides and fix them all together. Oh and ive done the bridesmaids flowers, there all ready in a box.

Whats everyones DIY ideas or projects they have started?

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3844311 here's a link to a thread with diy projects on.

    I'm also diy-ING everything, it's so fun.

EDIT - whoops the photos on that thread no longer work, which is a shame as mrsd had some amazing ones.

A good idea might be to do a search on here of any particular project you are doing and there will be loads of ideas, hints and tips for you.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

We made the invites, and I am going to make the favours (argh  wishing I hadn't said it now tbh). We will also do the table plan.

If you will take some gentle advice, try not to overstretch yourself...when the wedding was ages away I was happy to say 'oh I'm make this, I'll make that!' but now it is much closer I am kicking myself...and I hadn't even planned to make very much!

    Hi,

This all sounds amazing I would love to be a DIYer but tbh don't know where to begin can I ask how you did the bridesmaid flowers and wine glass charms? This is really unusual hadn't thought of doing anything like those :) xxx

    We will be making:
Order of service - thinking of keeping it simple and rustic, maybe using brown paper to make it a bit different?
Table Centerpieces - tissue paper flowers in our colours stuck in oasis to make either rings or balls, not sure which yet. Rings if I perfect the giant flowers so I can put one in the middle surrounded by little ones :)
Sweetie buffet (if we ultimately decide to have one)
Venue decorations - making some tissue paper pom pom garlands and hanging poms. Also got loads of tulle. Probably buy some ivy to decorate beams with etc.
Place names - luggage tags with keys attached
Favours - if we decide against sweet table. Will probably stay traditional with sugared almonds or chocolates.

I would be very happy to make the bouquets and buttonholes but all others involved in the wedding would prefer fresh flowers ;) Think I would too tbh, just trying to save money where possible.

I have until august 2014 to make all this, so doing things a little bit at a time :) Trying to learn to crochet to make some more wedding related things like crocheted heart bunting perhaps!

  • I'm doing some DIYing too.
So far I've made my wine charms and save the date magnets.

I'm also going to be doing
    napkin rings
    post box
    alternatives to place cards
    table plan
    menus
    order of service
    goody bags for the rooms
paper pom poms (although need to double check that its not cheaper to buy already done)
    some heart decorations
    some signs
    the sweety buffet
    an alternative guest book
    favours
    invites

and maybe a few more bits.
Tbh I hand't thought I was doing much but now I've started writing this post I realise I'd better start to get on with it!

This is what i'm actually making/made.

    Save the date cards
    Invites
    Order of Service
    Kids Activity books
    Jewellery for me & BM's
    Flowergirls Boquets
Maybe BM Boquets depending on how much they are to buy
    Fingerprint Guest Tree
    Buttonholes

This is what I was going to make when I originally started planning over a year ago but with just over 5 months to go and loosing the will i've ditched these:
Personalised cookies for wedding favours (bought chocolate is christmas sales instead)
    Table Plan
    Name Cards
Heart Shapped Sugar Cubes (still thinking about these)
    Guest book
    Cakes for desert buffet

I'm sure theres more but my minds gone blank.
  • So far I've decided to do:

French beaded bridal bouquet (having a florist help with the putting together after I have made the flowers though)
    Wine glass charms
    Save the Date cards
    Invitations
Tiara and necklace (recycling my mums pearls from her wedding)
Cake decoration (buying plain iced cakes and decorating them myself)

Thats my current list, but I have only been planning for 2 weeks, there might be loads more I haven't thought of! :rotfl:
