tory lies about jobseekers

Last year I spent a couple of months on Jobseekers Allowance.
The most degrading, humiliating, and generally "feeling like crap" experience I've ever known, was turning up to 'sign on' each fortnight.
Could I have happily ran away, never to face that place again - Hell Yeah!!
It was full of people who had no intentions of working, and just wanted their "Giro" - their words, not mine, and were fighting with the staff who had sanctioned them for not turning up etc.
Me; I was just glad to get the Hell out of there & receive my £71 a week, which I needed to pay the basics, whilst I actually seeked a job.
Yes, there's people who don't want to work, and are happy with the basics. They'll always do the bare minimum to get their rent, giro etc...
Me; I was so grateful for the [temporary, thankfully] help I had, was grateful for the help I'd had when I couldn't work (had a job inbetween, working from home as that worked for me at the time - prior to that was a top rate tax payer).
I don't know what the answer is, but to be honest, I'd rather people who don't want to work aren't forced into it. If they're happy on £2 a week disposable income, as I was, leave them to it.
I'd rather that than be working next to them.
On a positive note though, I know JC+ staff take a pounding. I was always treated with respect from the staff.
I made a joke one day with an advisor saying [1 week into signing on], that I'd better get a job soon as I couldn't resign myself to watching Jeremy Kyle everyday.
Her reply was; "Even worse, you could end up on it." :rotfl:0 -
We were talking of JSA, forgive my non including the full benefit system but if I were to include all, it would be suggesting that the sick and disabled are scrounging layabouts alongside the jobless? Neither are but, that is what the Government are spreading (hate mongering).
My statistics were based upon the 2010 Labour stats recorded, that have now disappeared along with the bureau of national stats also. the Government have taken over the bureau and did so once they were (unelected but) placed into power.
To assume the hate campaign spread by politics and media is not associated with the disappearance of former public files (national stats) would be ignorant.
As for the rise in claimants on benefits since 2002 (as someone here stated), this is clearly not a rise in laziness is it!, the amount of small businesses having closed and job losses across the country is to account for this. There is a fact mental health issues and suicide has risen in the last few years concerning benefits and job losses, bear with me I will go find the link and post here for you0 -
I cannot place links in my posts, an error message stated as new user I was not allowed as it is to reduce any spamming.
Please Google the following words Benefits, Suicide Rise.
So, the mental health of the country deteriorates and the NHS, whom was yours (paid for out of your taxes) was illegally attacked by the gov also, leaving treatment scarce and People dying.
Why is it, (benefit haters), that you procede to hate and blame the most needy, poor, sick and unfortunate? instead, eagerly lick the !!!!!! of the biggest parasites of the country!
Who is not caring that the royal family whom are worth £44b, used millions of tax payers money on the royal wedding and jubilee?. Has it truly eluded you all, that only a few years ago politicians were outed for their abuse of expenses, from wallpaper, pet food, to that of rent and refurbishment of their 2cnd and 3rd homes. wow, lol, I have to laugh at the sheer ignorance, I thought we were a well educated country, logical thinking and civilized, clearly not!
Instead it seems the country is full of tabloid readers and sheeple whom robotically believe the rich and powerful never lie, do not steal, are not greedy nor getting richer in the recession at your expense. Do you really believe that the rich are indeed far more deserving of your taxes more than the sick, disabled and unfortunate?
:T wow lol0 -

You were so aggressive about telling others to get their facts in order!
I've finally got a job offer. I'm going to be commuting 240 miles a day and/or living apart from my family; earning half what I used to, but I'll be taking it because I passionately want to work.
Over the last couple of months I've met people who really want to work, people who say they do (but make precious little effort), and people who simply don't want to work at all.0 -
karmaqween wrote: »We were talking of JSAWhat you actually said was " Did you know that the benefit system only accounts for 3% of public spending in the UK?"
Indeed. Karmaqween you did not say anything specifically about JSA.0 -
Whilst agreeing that life on Jobseekers' Allowance is not easy (especially for a single person), I do agree that there should be compulsory work experience and sanctions if the Jobseeker does not keep their end of the bargain by signing on at the right time and going to interviews etc.
It must be remembered though that those with children will NOT get just £71 a week, they will get loads more in child-related Benefits and therefore it is really only single people who have to live on the £71 and even they will get rent/CT paid if they are living away from their parents.
When my son was unemployed he did voluntary work and then took a job that was actually LESS than his JSA just to get back into work. The manger of the place he had been volunteering gave him a glowing reference. I'm glad to say my son now has a much better job.
You can still sign on if your job is less than 16 hours a week, they just adjust the amount of JSA accordingly.
So there is no need not to take any suitable job.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Or £56.25 per week if under the age of 25.0 -

Whilst I agree with a lot of your sentiments, you should be more specific when quoting figures which can be proved to be inaccurate.
The figures you quote are 'recognised' numbers, but you are misinterpreting them. The 3% figure you quoted was a percentage of the welfare budget allocated to JSA claimants, not 3% of public spending, which includes other budgets besides welfare.
Similarly, the £44 billion figure you quote is not the net worth of the royal family, but the 'market capitalisation value' and includes estimated benefits to the UK economy worth £26.4 billion. Figures taken from the Brand Finance’s Jubilee Report 2012.0 -
Everyone keeps bleating on about 'there is no reason why you shouldn't take any suitable job' but you have to get one first!!!!!We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
