Hi,I must be missing something but why consider Prizefinder when you are posting on a resource that must have more comps posted?

Because I find the forum format difficult to navigate, I always work better with a basic website listing. Just the way I work best, no insult intended towards MSE! I tend to come here just to chat really. It was a very useful resource during the great Boots Barcelona Crisis of 2012! :rotfl: Now there's a comping moment I wont forget.

I think what Salmon is saying is that we may have a new influx of 'new' compers.

I started off using Prizefinder, then went to Loquax and ended up here - but they are all used in my hobby so it is a shame to lose such a great resource.

I think Di & Steve at http://www.theprizefinder.com/ will also be a first port of call for ex loquats - they now have trackers and have ready sorted date ending lists.

MSE is forum based and therefore difficult to navigate compared to a custom built comps listing site so may frustrate many who have previously used Loquax.

Although the forum for Loquax is still there and may evolve as existing users recover from the initial shock.

    FANTASTIC POST!! :T:T

Could not agree more with everything you said Josie and you were correct with what i meant. Prizefinder will have a bigger influx of users due to the tracking and listing being similar to Loquax and the many Loquats that likely follow Di Coke's blog.

MSE does have a harder format to get to grips with especially new compers. If any of my friends say they are interested in starting i always pointed them to Loquax because people can think 'all i want is a holiday' and just head straight to that section. But lots of people will also come here and register leading to what is sure to be many more; duped posts, bumping, incorrect titles and current MSE users who now see thread views going from 1,500 to quite possible double that. Don't panic everyone! all these people were still entering before - just via Loquax!! ;)

Obviously everyone has a right to join MSE and fingers crossed we get some lovely, friendly new contributors. I feel velvet gloves comping guide for MSE will need to be linked around a lot in the upcoming weeks. :T

I also think there are other changes we may notice, but are impossible to predict yet. Ultimately the two biggest sites for comping in recent years have been MSE and Loquax. Prize finder is a player too but i've always felt ever so slightly less so. (However i don't pretend to have the ultimate members figure knowledge - just my feeling) So with literally THOUSANDS of people who comp daily using Loquax only, now, with little warning trying to find other avenues for their hobby there is bound to be other interesting points and issues that arise whilst everything shakes down and finds it's place again.

I started off using Loquax only, and posted comps to them whenever i found them, but i didn't enjoy the forum as i felt there were certain members with a serious 'i am God' complex and i didn't enjoy being treated like a lesser person for not being logged on 24 hours a day. Having said that also there were many fantastic, kind and helpful members so as always, my opinion only and life is swings and roundabouts! It is a shame for their devoted members and i hope they find a way to comp they enjoy again.

I also hope Jason and his team find more times for themselves and can become happier in their day to day lives due to this decision. As sugarplum said it has been very clear he has been unhappy for a long time and this fact also made me want to use loquax less as i always felt such a dour tone.

Perhaps they will expand the forum and allow the users to run it in a similar way as mse with Jason allowing certain long standing members to become board guides etc, by doing this he would be able to keep the footfall high to the site in turn keeping the bucks rolling in from the gambling avenues.

Who knows, whatever they do here is to a happy healthy 2013.

    GL all

WOW sugarthief, your attitude really stinks, for you to be a member of loquax for so many years, use the comp listings, ask for advice on your child rearing etc etc but then turn so quickly is disgraceful.

You seem sure of yourself. Could there not possibly be more than one person who is actually disgruntled with loquax's poor treatment of it's users? *shock horror*

Trying hard to think of something I will miss but it is all in the past (glory days). So will thank them for starting me off in comping years ago and wish them good luck and good health

I think there will be a lot of tension, confusion and frustration vented in forum posting the next few weeks.

Change would be difficult for anyone when you have such a long standing structure to the way you comp so all loquats only have my sympathies

Let's all be nice to everyone and not disrespectful - this thread is much better as an interesting discussion - not a slam fest.

Don't want to get into the whys discussion... our blog post covers enough detail and hopefully people will respect that.

I do want to say something about the 'quick decision' comment.

We made the decision on the 20th December - and it didn't seem right to tell users just before Christmas or during the festive period. This is therefore the 'best' first day. The current comps in the system remain until they taper off. This for us is therefore the best approach.

It has been something considered before (last 18 months - and as some observers have noted the weight of the site has caused a lot of stress in that time). However, it was never actioned or even considered in such detail until before Christmas - however, recent events (family related) have accelerated us into having to choose a course of action. We've made our decision and imo others in the same circumstance would do the same.

The forum remain mainly to give folks a chance to discuss this decision, decide what to do etc. The future of that part of Loquax - who knows!?

    Good luck...

    Jason

Although I used to use Loquax I rarely do now, there are so many other sites I use that are better

Oooh, could you list them for those of us who only know Loquax/Prizefinder/here. Ta!

I am a bit shocked at the announcement. It's been obvious for a while that Jason and co were not happy, but they kept posting reassurances that Loquax was not going anywhere. Obviously no one guessed what they would do! I am surprised they never used the forum members. There are plenty of people there who would have been willing and able to be mods etc.

Maybe but not one who has shown both faces so quickly imo.
  • I'm a huge fan of Loquax and i will seriously miss it. :( I chose to move over here for my main comping several months back due to personal issues with another member but i have made some good friends thanks to Loquax and have won some amazing prizes over the years. I wish the owners and mods there all the best for the future.
If I cared what everyone else thought, I'd be just like everyone else, and there's already too many of them. :A

If you are in love with loquax, why are u here? Oh! Do they know you are a secret mse fan? You'll be the object of a witch hunt soon if u not careful! :search:
