Right, have found something I am interested in making - friend is having a baby girl in about 3 weeks so this will be for her. The link is

This is how far I've got... LOTS of counting and fiddly bits, but I don't think I'll know if I've got it right until the last point. Which will be horrifically frustrating!0 -
mysk_girl - that is absolutly gorgeous, is it knitted or crocheted, its fab. xxx
ps - I just noticed it was crocheted, (brain like a sieve!!). xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Just a quick 'fun' idea for a relatively cheap homemade (probably joke gift) since I have man flu at the moment it dawned on me that you could put together a cheap 'man flu survival kit' together for a male relative who usually makes a big fuss when they have the sniffles.
You could get a plain white mug (you can pick them up for about 50p in Asda/Tesco etc) and using a craft pen you can write 'man flu survival kit' with their name on it. You can then fill it with a small pack of tissues, lemsip, paracetamol, throat sweets etc which won't cost the earth for a fun novelty gift.28/04/11 - A bad day for shoppers everywhere (Tesco shoppers that is!) saw this idea in a magazine article...and then found it on line.
http://www.frugallifeproject.com/2010/06/diy-crayon-initials.html
In the magazine all the crayon points were in line on the same side which I think looked better! and the crayons were cut with a stanley knife.
However it is a neat idea- could be for a child or adult. Wonder if it would work for 2 initials (wedding)... or what about a red crayon heart for Valentines day?
Box lid for frame?Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

The crayon initials look great. Another crayon art that I saw a while back was this, really effective.

Was thinking about spelling out a word or someone's name in masking tape or something like that on the canvas and when dry remove it so the canvas underneath would remain plain and the word appear. Wonder if that would work?28/04/11 - A bad day for shoppers everywhere (Tesco shoppers that is!) RIP DTD :A0 -
I have made the initial letters in crayons. It's quite tricky at first, working out how exactly to cut the crayons - especially on the diagonal & sorting out the colours. They looked great when they were finished and some letters are easier than others. I made them for teacher presents at the end of the year. I printed out the letter on the computer then used a glue gun to stick the crayons together. I found they kept moving around so eventually stuck them to the template and used a stanly knife to cut it off the template when I had finished then stuck the whole thing to a new piece of card. I thought it looked more effective stuck to black card. Hope that helps.
I also made the one you suggested Cher-Ching, my 7 year old daughter helped and its so easy.0 -

That's a good idea. I did make DD a "cold survival kit" last year. She never has anything in for when she gets a cold so I got a small brown bag-the kind they put your coffee in on trains-and filled it with a packet of cold capuscles, throat sweets, a small packet of tissues,a small jar of honey, a jif lemon, a minature of whisky and a bar of her favourite chocolate.0 -
Hiya
I was thinking of making some handwarmers but what can I use in them. I have pudding rice and i have dried chick peas. or will i need to buy something for them. and will they be able to be put in microwave if i use normal t'shirt fabric for pocket to put them in. i was going to do crochet owls to put it in but have it so you can take it out to microwave if that will work?
Thanks0 -
Hi nuttybabe,
I've made some hand warders for Xmas and used plain rice for the willing. I used felt and you can put these in the microwave for 1 minute. If you do it longer you'll burn the rice and it'll stink. Sorry cant help you re crocheting. Good luck x0
