What did you use as the base of the wreath? Thick card? I can see it would make a great birthday present or maybe a 25th anniversary present. Think I might make a couple.

Yes thick card - it was actually easier to cut 2 thinner ones and glue them together. didn't have to be neat as I covered it.

I'm planning on making the chilli vodka for my stepdad, together with chilli jam and maybe chilli biscuits(?) but does anyone know whether I can get a bottle of vodka for less than £10 anywhere - I was relying on aldi but it's still £9 for 70cl. I don't drink vodka & thought it would be cheaper - maybe I'm just being a tightwad haha. Also a good place to get flip cap bottles ? (i don't know what they're called!!)

The Range sell a box of 12 flip cap bottles for £10

    Sorry, next question
    Covered -with what?
I assume that you have wound a covering round the ring, or maybe it is a solid circle. Approx diameter would be appreciated too!

(it's alright, I'm not going to ask you to make me one!!)

I used a side plate (22cm diameter) and cut a hole (9cm diameter) in the middle. (easier to cut 2 thinner ones)
I covered it in nice 'scrapbooking' paper. (good quality wrapping paper would work)
    Hope this helps x

2014 20p savers club #2 I've given up trying to keep track of how much that pig eats!
2014 £2 savers club #3 - I've no idea, but the pig is beginning to get mighty heavy

  • This is a lovely thread. I've been watching it with great interest.
I made all my presents for Christmas last year - apart from my children's, I don't know how to make BMXs or skylanders unfortuantely!
For little girls I made hair clip hangers - they went down very well, in fact my goddaughter wrote about hers in school saying that it was her best present! So much for iPods eh?!
We also made word cloud pictures for the adults - I got my children to make a list of words to describe everything about their aunties, uncles, cousins etc then used wordle to make the pictures, put them in a cheap frame from ikea - so cheap and simple to make.
It really has inspired me to carry on with my making & I'm hoping to get lots of good ideas from here!
My friend made my Christmas present too - she embroidered a picture onto some plain cream cotton & covered a notebook with it - it's absolutely gorgeous.

  • Well, I've finished 2 presents - one for a birthday in March, so am ahead of the game there - some crochet bunting for a friend.

And one that is not for anything, but I had had promised for a while. The appliqu! is her daughters old babygros, a memory cushion really. This is what I came up with, and am delighted with it :-)

Still working on my next present for friend in mid February... Have had more ideas since the bag idea, I've got a few days to decide! And I might offer to make her a memory cushion, she has an 18wk old baby boy.

The wreaths look lovely, I might pinch that idea for my mum in July and a couple of friends in autumn. I think they would make lovely presents with sachets of face mask, bath salts etc? Perhaps with a wee mirror in the centre as well...

Am loving seeing everyone's ideas :-)

mysk_girl - those look fab, the crochet bunting is gorgeous, I wouldn't have the patience, love the cushion.

Just a thought - the wreath - you could always do one with ious - I'm going to do one for mum for xmas, as shes so fussy to get for, she ended up with knickers as her main prezzie, - but she would love lunch out, trip to icecream farm, and that would be brilliant to use the wreath idea, xx
