    Xmas Saver!
Welcome AJ:wave:.... Love the idea of snowman soup....:)
I copy and paste links/ ideas etc from here and keep them on a list on my PC to cook/ make/ find/ buy...... The list is endless.:)

    Rufus
The books that I have seen are too expensive to cut up:mad: but I will continue looking....

I am mid prep for DD 18th:eek::eek::eek::eek: which is on 1st June....

I am doing "sophisticated" nibbles as she calls them. No sausage rolls allowed. (Any ideas for easy but good looking nibbles will be greatly received;))

I am making a fish bowl and have ordered the Nerds candy as gravel :jand Swedish fish sweets that I am going to impale on cocktail stick dyed blue in the hope of anchoring them to the bottom to look like they are live fish:)......otherwise I'm not sure if they will sink or float (and dead fish are not a good look:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:) Got a plastic plant to put in there too.;)
Just read this back and not sure if I am making sense or not:o:o:o
Please feel free to let me know if it sounds like i am losing the plot here!!!:D

The decorations have arrived:j:j....Loads of pink sparkly 18th "stuff" but I have just seen on DD FB page that she has set up an Event page for aforementioned "do" and I'm NOT invited:mad::mad::mad:

I was really looking forward to a night out on the lash in "the Toon" :beer:but it was not meant to be

Never mind.... Please DO offer any suggestions if you have been through the same food planning nightmare.....or not!!!!
    Thanks
    xxx

Nit-nurse, my daughter is 18 in July, she has booked a hall over a pub for her party, she wants a Hollywood party with posters and glamourous things everywhere. Wants them all to wear prom like outfits.

Thanks Nitnurse, Im in the north east to :) sounds like the 18th arty will be great what about posh little sandwich's and anything on little crackers would look good to, you can let your imagination run wild with little crackers. I used some things on the bbcs site at christmas when I had a little housewarming and they turned out nice http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/recipes/occasions/party-food/ hope it helps you :)

Im having work done in my flat so its great having all this free time to catch up with everything on MSE :) so my christmas prep is coming along quite well and I only have 4 birthdays left but they arent till aug onwards

nitnurse, iceland and most supermarkets do party platters in the frozen sections or chillers, you could have a look whats in them.
at christmas i got some breaded mozzarella that went down really well,
baked Camembert with bread sticks to dip in?
not sure if vol-a-vents (spell checker is telling me i want to put enslavement there LOL) or pork pie are allowed?
    veggie sticks and dips?

welcome AJGRAY hope you find lots of ideas to help you be a more organised gifter. if you need aan yhelp or ideas just shout.

rufus for the hollywood party, could you get a bit of red carpet for near the door? and perhaps borrow a friend with a camera to be paparazzi for the night and go round taking the guests photos? or a friend with a black suit to be the bouncer "if your names not on the list you ain't getting in"
any trophy's in local CS that can be turned into oscars for table decorations? im mad with myself now someone at the carboot on sunday was selling a film clapperboard i couldnt think of a use for it then.

hope all the parties go well

Don't know if anyone on here is planning anything painted?

In the next 3 weeks (when I am away & have (in theory!)unlimited time and space I am going to try out painted shoe boxes. Did some much smaller cardboard boxes on last cruise and they turned out great. Someone painted theirs in GS team colours with football cut outs!!
Gift boxes? Jewellery boxes? storage boxes? might make hampers too! Also bought a couple of fancy shapes at CB for 10pence each- yes, I was robbed.
Have begged some boxes from local shoe shop.

You use 2 coats emulsion on outside including the bottom and then decorate with decoupage, or tissue, or painted design (emulsion again) such as stripes, teeny flowers, aboriginal designs and then 2 coats water based matt or satin varnish to seal. Then 2 coats emulsion inside in toning or contrast which can be left unvarnished.

Thing is now Dulux have their testers 3 for £1 instead of £1.55 each! just bought some in B & Q. Have bought the darkest colours as it is easy to mix with white for pale hues (and I have masses of white)
Wish I could puzzle out how to post pics. Don't hold your breath but will try when I have some shoe boxes done.
You can also use emulsion on wooden items too- again seal with water based varnish.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

AJ - a box full of magazines, that would be my dream

Katie - thats a good idea with boxes, i'm forever coving boxes with something as I'm always making gifts and needing boxes and they`re so expensive. As for the heads up, I'm off to B&Q, needs some testers and what a fab price

I love those book bags they were advertised in a national newspaper this week and I thought they looked c*$% the way they`d done them as a clutch with cardboard sides. I bought a book but like it as a book so have to look out for another.

Theres some great ideas on here and I`m busy trying to put them all together. But keep getting distracted making jewelry and slogan tops.

Must get some organisation going as the room looks as if a bomb has droppes

Its great, there was free things in with them so it needed a bigger box than just a big plastic bag like normal.

And I think I will head don to B&Q at the weekend need to see what colour to paint the stairs and landing walls so thanks for the heads up :T
