  • Making pancakes tonight - not so much for myself as I can take or leave them, but Mr KB is keen on them. I'll do a cheese & bacon pancake bake (a bit like a lasagne) and some sweet ones for him if he wants. I bought a jar of Value chocolate spread - he can have some of that with a banana.

Hi Kitchenbunny - hope you're feeling a bit better! Do you have a recipe for the cheese and bacon pancake bake?? Sounds yummy.
OH made chocolates this weekend using moulds and he made home made salted caramel to go int he middles! Let us know how you get on!

susan - great news on Baby Charlie!!! Weight on, off the ventilator....
Very jealous of your 8 pancakes - I started making pancakes for OH and DD (she's only 3!) thinking I'll pig out with the rest of the mixture. OH had 3. DD HAD 3!!!!! lol I managed to squeeze out 3 small pancakes with the remaining mix, but the mix I made is only really for 8 pancakes total. I'm doubling the mixture next time!!! lol

SUgarspun - awww that's lovely!! Bless Big Junior for telling everyone first!

    WB queenb!

rufus - well done on the free dress makers dummy!!!!

Anglea - London - or more specificially Harry Potter studios - were fab!!!!

Finally designed my SIL's wedding cross stitch! Managed to start on it this weekend, so that's a weight off! lol

Been busy busy in work - we have a staff social committee and we've been organising a Masquerade ball! Got a good budget to it's heavily subsidised to attract staff to attend. Managed to pick up a new ball gown form ebay too at £30. I was going to treat myself to spending £60 on a dress for SIL's wedding, but have already ordered this AND have ordered a possible dress for the wedding off ebay too - only £10.50 (second hand!). Neither have arrived yet so will need to see if they suit. If not, back on ebay they go!

    Hope everyone's well!

  • would it be ok to use an idea in this way?

saw an advert in sunday magazine for something called "jim Jamz"
obviouslly you cant nick their name BUT if you are thinking of a novel way of packing pyjamas for christmas gifts it was basically PJs in a jam jar
ive noticed the fluff (the marshmallow goop stuff) comes in a retro looking plastic jar that could hold a pair of kiddie jammas.

im not suggesting that you sell these im just thinking of novel packaging for gifting

  • Hi there, cdsmiler - here's the recipe I use.

    Standard pancake batter
4 rashers of bacon, cut into chunks
    1 heaped tbsp plain flour
    1 heaped tbsp butter
    1 pint milk
    Lots of cheese

You start by frying the bacon in a little butter in a big saucepan. When it's done add the rest of the butter and the flour. Stir it about - it'll get really gooey and sticky looking. Add a little milk - keep stirring! Keep adding milk until it gets a little thinner, more like a white sauce. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and cook until it thickens. Add the grated cheese when it looks saucy enough to how you like it (we like it really thick). Taste it, and add extra seasoning if you need it. With the salt in the cheese and the bacon, it's unlikely to need salt, but you could add some pepper or perhaps a little made mustard if you like it with a kick.

Layer the pancakes and the sauce, then top with any leftover sauce and some grated cheese. Bake in a hot oven (I used about Gas Mark 6) for 20-30 minutes until bubbling and lovely.

It's very rich, so you won't need much of it. We only generally have it on Pancake Day and it sometimes negates the need for the sweet pancakes later on. You'll need roughly 6-8 pancakes, depending on the size of your baking dish.

Sorry for the vagueness of the recipe - I don't normally work to specific quantities. Hope it helps.

Sounds a good plan queenb, I havnt seen those chocolate bars around our town but then we dont have any big supermarkets except for Co-op.

Got my shoes for wedding, they fit really nicely. Going to make a start on my dress tomorrow.

Went up the town this morning and popped into a charity shop that we dont often go in and found a nice top and a cardigan, cost £2.50 for them both together. Came home and my sister's turned up this afternoon and one of them brought me down a bag of clothes that she didnt want, including two pairs of jeans and a nice jacket. Will fit me so really pleased. Feel like I have a new wardrobe now.

Whew, not a lot happening giftwise lately. All of the birthdays out of the way for February now and only one needed for March. I've done very little else on the cross stitch front so things are only just ticking over. I'm still garnering Nectar points, and I'm up to about £9, but...

    ...things are getting somewhat busy.
