Having a nightmare because my Mum is really hard to buy for. She doesn't smoke or drink (not that I'm complaining about either of those lol); she hasn't got any hobbies (has been through most of them at one time or another - jig saws, dolls houses, knitting, cross stitch, tapestry, etc etc) but is now not interested in any of them; doesn't enjoy reading any more; rarely plays music; hasn't got a dvd player (and doesn't want one - too technical); lives in a lovely flat but it's very small and she doesn't want any knick-knacks to display; already has lots of piccies of great grandchildren. I'd got her back interested in dolls houses and miniatures last year but after a big flurry she's off them again now. Oh, and she's watching her fat intake so choccies are out too so all I can think of is flower.......Help!!!

Would she like a window box of herbs or flowers? Or if she used to enjoy reading, how would she feel about audiobooks?

My first time joining in the challenge woo hoo!

    Mothers Day-

Having a nightmare because my Mum is really hard to buy for. I think I am easy to buy for and always appreciate what I get. Here are a few suggestions: magazine subscription (now that I am retired I have think twice about buying mags), perfume (I use it every day but not everyone does - I recommend Laura Ashley No 1, nice and retro), lunch out together (again, a nice treat if you are on a budget), artificial flower arrangement (generally I think they are naff but TKMax do some fairly decent ones), a manicure at a local salon, Indian Head Massage, nice teapot/cup/saucer, Cath Kidston, Emma Bridgewater, all luxuries.

I hope this is of help. I never find it difficult to think of gifts I would like, hot water bottle, gloves, handbag, shoes, eye-brow threading, vases, candles..............see what I mean?

Ooh, Whitesatin - maybe you could be my surrogate mum - I think it would be much much easier to buy for you lol :rotfl:Actually, looking at your list I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps we were twins separated at birth!

Mum2One - it's funny you should say about knickers because for a few years I bought her knickers (the 'full' ones from M&S)and nighties. The year before last when I was trying to think of what to get her she happened to mention she didn't need knickers because she has loads in the drawer that have never been used - obviously she didn't need the ones I kept buying her after all!

Kitchenbunny that's inspired - if she still baked that would make a great pressie. She had a thing about making scones just before Christmas (actually eating more than making) so I bought her the Asda scone mix as a tree pressie. She thought it was really good - but gues where it is now, yep, in the cupboard!

Sugarspun - love the herb window box idea but as she doesn't cook anymore either she won't use them.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. She always used to be really easy to buy for but now that she's older she really doens't want anything. I forgot to say before that bath stuff etc is out to since she got enough at Christmas and her birthday to last the whole year! To be fair, she'd be fine if we didn't get her anything but I can't do it. Maybe I could do a subscription to a magazine that I want and then she can just give it to me each month!
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

    LOL Peppapig. Maybe you're right.

Good idea to get a subscription to a magazine you would also enjoy. I buy all the glossy house magazines I can afford and hate to part with them but I need to clear some space so took them in to my neighbour who was so delighted with them that I wish I had done it earlier. It made me feel good and helped justify the expense. Sharing is good.

Grandad Hoodie been up in the loft - now have the rest of the missing presents, - so thats 2mors job - try and fill some missing gaps.

Even found a box of 5 kids suitcases in the loft - heck knows how long they have been there - keeping 1 be great for hols as fit in tablets, ds etc - keep everything together -

Also found a coat I brought back in late 90s...... a long PVC coat - the 1st thought that came to mind was a flasher mac. Remember buying it, was reduced from £200 to £50 in Evans - I was on hol at the the in Exeter with a friend, - we'd caught the bus as we hadn't intended to go shopping, - on way back we had to have a seat in and seat in front had all shopping, - remember we got off the bus outside the caravan site - i had to dump him with the shopping and fetch the car for the last 100 yards. Those where the days - carefree and not worrying about money!! But wouldn't swop anything.

We've now paid for Mays holiday - all sorted - skint now.

Miss hoodie loved the football 2ngt - thou one complaint she couldn't shout at the ref - apparently she wanted to tell him he needed to go to specsavers!! as she was on school trip, - the school was given 60 free tickets, She loved it.

I'm back to odd hours - think got kidney infection - so up and down quicker to get a cup of tea and hr on computer.

Dentist 2mor - help - hopefully Miss hoodie get all clear, me think need filling....

The easter egg offer at tesco - £1.50 each - about 10 varieites, (all whats the individual store got!), - same size as Asda had £1 each last yr - depending on how many u need. Adding some onto Granddad hoodies shopping list!! (see if it works...) xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

There was a link on grabbit it board - some magazines 3 issues or 6 issues at good price that may be any help for mum.

What about seeing if you have a college nearby - as some do hairdressing, massage / beauty treatments, - all supervised by tutors, - you could book an Indian Head massage or something like that for u and mum then go out for lunch, - you both get the treat at a mse price. xx

Treatments at our local college (grabbed a few prices)
    Head massage - £3
    Facial - £5.50
Eyelash perming - £8.50 (thats a new one to me!!!)
    Nails - £10
    Perms - from £20

i've been to our college for hair cuts - they were ok, thou we found it cheaper to use hairdressers in rhyl (day out as well).

    xx

  • peppapig my mil is the same, she cant be bothered to knit or sew anymore (but has all the stuff) she does lace classes again has all the stuff but isnt really bothered about it and just treats it as somewhere to get out to. she only eats ready prepared frozen or chilled meals as "its not worth cooking for one" bathroom is full of toiletries that arent used.
only thing she does do regularly is go to the local senior screening ODeon do a cut price cinema morning one day a week for older ones would your mum be interested in something like that?

I need to keep check on this thread and not rely on email notifications as havent had any for a couple of days and there were lots of new posts when I looked today that I missed.

Been busy on my dress, have to the main body done and the lining made, just need to join the two together now.

Bought a pair of Converse trainers for YD yesterday via the email from ML, came to just under £20 inc the postage. This will be a nice treat for her birthday as she loves Converses.

Not much else going on at the moment here. Will check out the challenges later on xx
