MOOLOO'S Muddling on into 2013

I am trying to turn my hobby of sewing into a small business, but at the moment, with intermitant sales of less then £30 a month, its not a viable business.
Plenty of people on here and in real life, are self employed earning virtually nothing yet have self employment that takes over 30 hours a week (including sales time, online listing, raising profile etc, shopiing for raw materials....) that then entitles them to working tax credits etc. It may be worth calculating how that would effect your finances.so basically trying to keep things as good as I can for the family has taken over from the needs and wants of my love life, my career, and my homes.
I am totally humbled by what you have done. With your youngest at ~17, so freedom being in eyesight, you really have started all over again. I doubt many would be able and willing to do that.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Is this because DGD has been staying with her mum in an unsuitable environment?
Shes not been given back just had unsupervised contact at mums house - which although Mooloo has full PR would not be considered a good move in terms of safeguarding.
That sounds scary, the boys had a forced adoption didn't they? Hope social services aren't going to do over-react about DGD having unsupervised contact.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
I wonder whether they might be overreacting due to the recent poor OFSTED report against Northants child protection services“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

DGD is allowed unsupervised contact with her Mum, she was having that before the Special Guardianship, she had even had a sleepover before as well.
This new worker is being over zelous and has caused a upset as the safe guarding team do not actually know us and are listening to the Social Worker for Mum, so they are reguarding the situation as unsuitable from the odd activity a few months back when cannibis was found while clearing up. This was some tiny amount that some visitor had dropped.
Twin1 no longer hangs out or allows any of the so called undesirables in her home. (youngsters that were using her to hang out rather then go to the youth club- )
I totally agree ic tbey were there the. it would not be suitable. However they are failing to act on the current situation. Mum is not having these around, and IF I let DGD stop with her then we have a plan in place, I do the risk assessment before I leave her, and if there is anything untowards then she is not allowed to stay.
I would like to point out that nothing has ever happened to DGD wbile in her mothers care EVER.It is al been done on social services supposition that neglect would have been a cause for concern when Dgd was a baby.
DGD is now at school, she is not a baby, and she can speak up about her needs, and on that assessment, then I deemed, as I am responsible its my judgement call. If its not acceptable then why bother to give me the responsibility in the first place.?
Anyway they kept me waiting in all morning waiting for their call but they didnt call until I went out after school. I rang the worker who did all of our assessments and ran this all by her and she was not worried. I have left a message on their machine and asked them to talk to her and get the facts before they bother to come back to me.
Gizmo, sorry I know that you are a sensible worker, and common sense comes into play, but they are useless here. Lets face it look at the last 5 years dealings that I have had with them. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I believe that New claims have to prove that a Self employed situation is now a viable one first, which is why I have not gone down that route. I will investigate. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

But Working Tax Credit are clamping down and if people are self-employed claiming to do 30 hrs but with no income they are going to be stopped.
For the first year is fine while the business is built up but in the second year they are assuming an income based on minimum wage x the hours you claim to work which means you will get less WTC.
If your self-employment is not bringing in a livable wage then it is classed as a hobby!0 -

Absolutely - the fact that OFSTED has given Northamptonshire Social Services a damning report shows just how bad they must be!0 -

I didn't know that. I thought you had 3 years to establish the business. OH's work brings him in to contact with people opening restaurants and it takes most a lot longer than a year to break even, let alone provide an income.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Perhaps they have at least got a good flow of cash, etc coming in and out, so that they can show accounts. I am not sure that the dabbling I do is anything much but a hobby, and wouldnt qualify. I am sure I was looking into this with the Personal Advisor a couple of years ago, and they were not able to see any help for me to get established.
I will plod on, see what other work I can do from home perhaps. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
