Has anyone made their own printables? What programmes do you use? I've used Excel for my weekly planner but would like a more sophisticated look.

I ended up using Excel too - but I'd also like them a bit ..... prettier!

  • Been reading through this thread with interest and having to control myself and not go out and buy all new stationery. I have just started to get myself organised - I have done this before but have let it slip over the past few years. I have been using free printables from

    http://christmas.organizedhome.com/printable/planner-covers

    http://organizedhome.com/

    http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.co.uk/p/free-printables.html

The last one was recommended by a previous post on this thread.

I am organising my folder by month with dividers for each month and then separate ones for holidays and Christmas. I really need to keep a good eye on the finances and will use this folder to do this too.

Thanks for all the inspiration from this thread.
  • Don't know if it's been mentioned, but a list of what you have stored in the loft/cellar/other storage areas in your house is handy to have.

  • I've been reading this thread a lot and love the idea of a Household Folder. I probably have everything mentioned in some form or other but to have it in one place would be great!

I'm so tempted just to rush right in but see there are so many variations that I am trying to work out what I need. It's just me and bf in the house but he works shifts which means routine isn't easy.

Although there are lots of templates online I will want mine to look the same and be exactly what I want so I'm going to create my own. I had a quick look through Excel yesterday and see they have lots of templates so I'm going to start on a calendar. Read this morning that Publisher is used so I'm in that just now sussing it out.

I'm also a stationery addict and scrapbooker so I'm going to make it look very pretty!

That's a really good idea, thanks. It took us til the very last box in the loft to find a christening present we knew we'd been given but couldn't find. Duh! And lofts are not fun places to spend time in...

btw one thing I keep in my folder is a list of things I wouldn't think to put on a shopping list but I should - eg toilet cleaner, toner, ketchup, cotton wool, rice, etc; saves loads of time to just whizz down and check the cupboard for anything I'm not well stocked with. Also a list of portion sizes for us - eg how many g of rice I use for a risotto or a curry, how many g of pasta etc.

I tried publisher but didn't get along with it (I was too impatient) but I found Excel can do a lot to make it look nice. I've used the Themes to get all the colours and fonts matching and they can be changed easily. I also see you could do rounded edges and fancy things with the shapes. I'm going to concentrate on getting the basics done then fancy it up over time.

    So far I have:

Monthly calendar with space at the bottom for short lists (still to be decided)
    Monthly meal planner
    Birthdays and other important dates
Home Improvement - things we need/want to buy for/do to house

I want to do a cleaning page, a freezer inventory and some other pages for this folder. I will also have a recipe folder (already exists but is a mess).

I absolutely love this thread. To have a daily 'log' of everything would help me so much. After a breakdown my brain doesn't function as well as I'd like and I am very forgetful these days and this is just the ticket to help so thank you so much!

I managed to buy an A4 diary from Wilkos for..... 10p! They are selling them off with remaining Christmas stock. I have begun by putting dates in it, along with to do lists for each day. I've also started up a little book I can pop in my handbag for shopping lists, items I've bought in the sales ready for this Christmas and vouchers I have to use.

I have used a household folder for years but it's mainly for all important paperwork such as tv licence, insurance documents etc. I keep them in individual plastic pockets for easy access. Pity I haven't kept up with it as it's now out of date and needs a total overhaul. But now I'm starting to get us organised again, I will get around to sorting it out again.
  • hey guys

the filofax is back in the cupboard, it just wasn't working for me in practice. Instead i got a mum's office diary, reduced, from Tesco and I LOVE IT! I am redoing some of my home management binder in a similar vein as its working really well. Ive also had a think about what new things i want in it and will be sorting it all out over the coming days, might even post some pictures after its done, if its any good lol
Trying to justify the shopping list one now

Hmm I've reverted to type as well. DD1 brought me a huge A4 page a day diary she'd been given in work (she uses her own posh one) so the file of printables in now redundant as I've pasted the lists into the diary and bookmarked them with paperclips.

I think this is more me, I previously used a £1 shop page a day for ins and outs and a seperate job list. So now I have it all on one page and jot the meals in the bottom right hand corner so I can flick through.

I've also realised I do prefer spreadsheets for semi-permanent things. I like how I can change them and they still look pristine and the colour coding I use on the birthday list just isn't feasible on a written list.

I found the following link somewhere on MSE there's a few planners and budgets which I'm going to have a look at.
