Banana peel is edible. Cut into pieces, blitz, mix with home made yogurt (from reconstituted milk pwder cost 4pence) and freeze into suitable containers or as ice cube shape.
    Makes Banana the cheapest fruit.

Dinner tonight was a few chopped up LO sausages heated in gravy served with LO mash and yorkshire puds. I cooked up some floppy veggies and chucked those in too. Also had a bit of LO chilli on the side too. Kiddies loved it, asked if they could have it again in future!

In the past all these LOs may well have ended up in the bin :o
  • lol MummyEm it's those one off concoctions that the kids love, I used to do a one pot wonder meal. one big pot of pasta with all sorts of stuff in it, they used to wonder what was in it but loved it - hehe.

  • Grrr, had to throw away a pack of Aldi extra lean mince beef. Sell by date was 13.1.13,and I dry fried it yesterday, although it looked grey. The smell it gave off was awful, and stunk the whole kitchen out. Really did not want to throw it, but could not take the risk of poisoning the whole family with it. Very cross, as was still in date. Must have been a dodgy pack. It was turning grey before my very eyes by Thursday. Had to hastily cook some bacon, chips and beans instead:(

And you can never replicate it exactly the same again either lol.

I am sat eating defrosted curried parsnip soup I made entirely of Christmas surplus. It's the first time I've made anything like this, but will definately be doing so again. IT IS SCRUMMY :j

    The recipe is

I left out the fresh red chilli as I didn't have one and upped the curry powder a little. Also didn't have any coconut in so missed this out entirely. I would really recommend, it is perfect for the snowy weather too.

    Serial lurker here :j

In the interests of using up not throwing away I left my planned stew in the freezer last night where it will keep for much longer and instead I had lemon & sugar pancakes, using up two elderly lemons and a just on its date egg, then when those settled I had two overripe bananas cut into chunks and fryed up till caramelised with a good slosh of rum and served with a just ood yogurt.

Not very healthy or balanced but as a one off & use it up type of meal I was quite pleased with it and it saved a few bits from the bin :D Incidentally I find it much easier catering for just one, I serve up combos for me that I would never have considered plating up before OH became ex-OH (ages ago now but the meal got me thinking as last time we had pancakes for our tea when together he asked what we were having for tea half an hour later!!!!) :D
