Hoarding - A New Start

I have two bears bought for me by the girls.
One Bagpuss, bought for me by the girls. Because Bagpuss is cool.
All three on top of the wardrobe. I won't shed any tears if anything happens to them, but both girls know I make an exception for them purely because they came from them.
Posh Paws, a purple furry dinosaur, which I fought to keep when my mother threw it out in spite one day when I was 15 (the woman with hundreds of soft toys resenting one, going into my room specifically to find things to throw out the window) and my ex also tried binning for a similar reason (it wasn't posh like having a teddy named Aloyisus). In the cupboard.
and one battered brown rabbit hand puppet I called Pippa. I have had that puppet since I was tiny and I always adored it above all other toys (I detested dolls).
My mother hated it for some reason (I can only think it was a present from my father) and I was quite surprised to find it in the Brownies jumble sale having been told I must have lost it a few months earlier when I was about nine. I knew it was mine, it had the right crease in the cardboard that formed the bit for the head inside. I bought it back.
She was not amused.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

It can work, very much depending on the personality of the child.
My DD grew up in jumble sale clothes and the school's lost property bin (we had nothing, improved drastically now) and she rocked it! She walked into school, head held high to the sound of other parents saying they wished their kids would wear funky hats etc. She would actually pity other conformist kids, saying "their mum makes them wear stuff from M&S"
I love this!! My DD is similar in that she has always had her own unique style. Sometimes I have been cringing thinking "don't go out looking like THAT" but she, too, rocks it! It has actually made her a lot of new friends at her new school and I am relaxing more and more and am proud that she doesn't follow the herd.
Not much de-Richarding here as I have been away. I need to sort the house out after my absence - OH and kids were here for a week without me so you can imagine....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I hated dolls, apart from Sindy and Pippa. Didn't like Ken but had an action man with built in underpants.
I had loads of jumble sale cuddly toys on my bed. Now I know that part of the comfort of it was the weight of it; something to do with low seratonin levels perhaps. Came home one day and my dad had burnt the lot of them. Never knew why. I don't think it was out of sheer nastiness, I think he was hoarderish/impulsive, or maybe just decided that my mother was spending too long on housework and not enough time addressing his every whim. But nothing was ever mine.
Wanted a puppy for years. And then he got one (free) from a farm dog. It nipped and I didn't know how to look after it. I was actually scared of it but I wanted to love it. It wasn't allowed indoors so I used to get up in the morning to see it before school. And one morning it wasn't there. It had bitten my father so that was it. I was so ashamed and angry for years and years and years. I was crying so badly that I didn't go to school but I don't remember my parents ever talking to me about it. I guess this is one for the counselling session.....:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Oh Whitewing, how awful x0

We have a few soft toys around too. My duck (is a hot water bottle really) and OH's teddy bear from when he was a baby (both cuddled up on the bedhead, LOL) and a 2 foot long cod (which has the power of speech and can do things, cod moves in mysterious ways :rotfl:)
Sorrysee the hoarding has driven us both barmy!
Today OH has been up the post box about 5 or 6 times with ebay stuff, he's really on a roll with his selling right now. I've packed my ebay sales and they're ready to go tomorrow. I didn't get to declutter my wardrobe, I opened the door and then shut it again, looked like a BIG job0 -
Totally stalled. Will have to rectify.
Have decided to try my first eBay listing. Have been talking about it for YeArs and never done it. Bit scared.
Think I will do buyer collect or maybe offer local delivery for a small item of furniture.0 -
LIR make sure you only accept cash on collection/on delivery then, not paypal - you might want to have a look at some of the threads on the ebay board (NOT trying to scare you off, just to make you aware
)
A couple of my ebay sales were my wool and knitting needles, went for more than I anticipatedAll packed and ready to go.

I think a few soft toys around the place cheers it up.
We had a big cull last year but the numbers are creeping up again. DH is worse than the children for giving them a personality and a history and therefore making them unchuckoutable.a 2 foot long cod (which has the power of speech and can do things, cod moves in mysterious ways :rotfl:)
You see, My OH is like this - for [STRIKE]G[/STRIKE]Cods sake don't tell him he could have a large stuffed "cuddly" fish:p. He has Honey Bear from before he was born. Honey Bear lives on our bed and literally comes between us. If I am cross with OH he will say "don't say that, you'll upset Honey Bear". Honey Bear has been on holiday with us numerous times - MIL bought him a "Pawsport" from the Bear Factory. But OH would give all the cuddlies in our house a personality (or "Bearonality") if I let him. BIL once bought us an alligator oven glove back from his holiday in Florida (we used to have a thing with each other for buying awful presents - we once bought BIL an ornament made out of cow dung so he would literally have a "$h!t" present :rotfl:) and for years "gator" lived under OH's pillow and would randomly attack when you weren't looking
Honestly, I have no chance....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

I am assuming you find this cute and amusing.
I think I would have murdered him and the gator within the third [strike]attack[/strike] [strike]minute[/strike] second.
If I hadn't run for the hills about the upsetting the teddy stuff within days of meeting him...........I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
