Well the kids bunks re here and built up. Currently the 2 toddler beds are sat on top of each other on in the eldests room

The bunks are wider than I'd expected so there isn't much space at all in the sharing room :(. Needs a proper clear out and sort out ASAP!

LIR make sure you only accept cash on collection/on delivery then, not paypal - you might want to have a look at some of the threads on the ebay board (NOT trying to scare you off, just to make you aware :))

A couple of my ebay sales were my wool and knitting needles, went for more than I anticipated :D All packed and ready to go.

    Oh no, why?

eBay board is a bad idea I think, I need no further excuse not to persue this, but tell me what I have to worry about doing this...then I won't find 800 other things to worry about while reading that board!:o

Just gave my puppy the first part of his first trim. I am never usually like this but I had to convince myself NOT to keep a lock of his lovely puppy hair.

I am assuming you find this cute and amusing.

I think I would have murdered him and the gator within the third [strike]attack[/strike] [strike]minute[/strike] second.

If I hadn't run for the hills about the upsetting the teddy stuff within days of meeting him...........

I know what you're saying, but he was cleverer than that. I don't think I actually met the teddy till after I'd said "for better for worse", his mother found it when she moved several years later. Gator has since "disappeared" ;)

I also found another box, that my nan gave me. I think she got it from a craft fair - it's quite unusual, made from old greetings cards. I don't have many things from my nan, so I do want to keep this. But it had a load of old rubbish in, which I have ditched, and I'm going use it to store my little collection of nautical memrobilia.
It's probably four too many for someone my age..... but it's a manageable amount.
Oh, I still have my childhood doll and two monkeys, but they are keepers.

Ooooh wow what a good idea to make boxes out of old greetings cards, I am going to do this then I can hold on to a few of my fave's with justification :-)
And I think its fine that you are keeping a few soft toys, nothing wrong with that at all :p

I had loads of jumble sale cuddly toys on my bed. Now I know that part of the comfort of it was the weight of it; something to do with low seratonin levels perhaps. Came home one day and my dad had burnt the lot of them. Never knew why. I don't think it was out of sheer nastiness, I think he was hoarderish/impulsive, or maybe just decided that my mother was spending too long on housework and not enough time addressing his every whim. But nothing was ever mine.

Wanted a puppy for years. And then he got one (free) from a farm dog. It nipped and I didn't know how to look after it. I was actually scared of it but I wanted to love it. It wasn't allowed indoors so I used to get up in the morning to see it before school. And one morning it wasn't there. It had bitten my father so that was it. I was so ashamed and angry for years and years and years.

Ohhhhh Whitewing that is SO sad, big hugs for you that must have been a horrible experience. Yes if you have councelling definitely bring these things up, it must feel good to talk about them and how they make you feel even if they are also painful memories :o
And RE the cuddly toys my mum tried to chuck mine all out in bin bags one day including one that is my first teddy that my dad's godmonther bought me, she just went a bit crazy and threw them all out, my dad went mad at her and got them back for me but that wasn't a very pleasent time for me, so I can relate to the toys thing ((((hug)))). What does the weight of things have to do with seretonin levels out of interest? I haven't heard of this but I used to sleep with all my cuddly toys on top of me until my mid-teens xx

I started eBaying about 4 years ago. Like you, I was quite nervous of it, but we had some garden furniture that I wanted to get out of the way, so I plucked up the courage to put them on eBay. A lovely lady from the next town won the auction, and she really guided me through the sale. It was a very positive experience, and since then I've been eBaying the contents of the house with hardly a problem.

With collection items, it's best to accept cash on collection.

With collection items, when the auction ends I message the winning bidder, to advise them of my address, and give them my phone number, so they can ring me and we can make arrangements for a time and date. Most people are really keen, and often they are collecting the goods within the hour!

If you read the eBay boards you'd believe that all transactions are fraught with problems - non payers, non collections, scam artists, chargeback s on Paypal accounts( money being reversed back out of your PayPal account)' not to mention rude customers.

But the vast majority of eBay transactions are simple and trouble free. The only problem I've ever had is with people who win auctions and don't pay. You can cut down the risk of this by barring people who've had two previous 'non payment strikes' in the last year, but from time to time I do get the odd person who doesn't pay. There is a process to go through to get your selling fees back, so it's just an annoyance really.

I'm a bit addicted to eBay, and sell loads of unwanted things, you'd be suprised at what people buy!

Try not to worry, it's fun and a bit addictive

The issue is (not common but can happen) that PayPal will only accept a proof of delivery from a courier. So if someone pays by PayPal but collects, even if you have a photo of them with the item or a signed receipt, they can claim non-delivery and you cannot win the claim.

There are areas this is more prevalent in (baby items for some reason are highly scammable) but it is a small risk nonetheless and something you should consider. The difficulty is you must offer PP even if you state a preference for cash on pick up.

The dyslexic addition to the convo is really interesting: I think it all helps with individual understanding of how and why some might be how they are with clutter and chaos and hording, not as an 'excuse' but as a 'oh, it's not me being useless then' sort of thing.

I have quite a few things that I could sell, but I am incident prone, things do seem to happen to me that truly aren't my fault, due to the mismanagement of others.
I could expand but there have been some genuinely moving posts on here and I don't want to witter on about something that doesn't perhaps compare.

I will possibly get my DS to sell them as his sales from Gumtree were a breeze.

Great North Air Ambulance have put a bag through the door, which is good, it will make me revisit the wardrobe and perhaps a few more things can go. I haven't bought any clothes since c. September last year and I intend to keep this going.

Unless something radical happens, my pre tax income this tax year will be a quarter of what it was last tax year.
I didn't know this was going to happen but luckily I made some good decisions last year, like paying off a massive chunk of my mortgage and remortgaging for a better deal. So it is difficult to let go of things as I haven't cash, but I need to be sensible too and declutter to make life easier.

Although I definitely bought too many clothes last year, I can now go all year without buying anything. Probably next year too. Every cloud.

What do you all do to get motivated? Did you start big or small?

    sq:)

A bit late in the day, but welcome...
I've found that concentrating on one room has helped. I've just started in my bedroom, mainly because (I thought) it's not particularly cluttered and would be easy to start with. However once I got going I found absolutely LOADS of stuff to get rid of. Stuff that I've carted about for years that I never even questioned keeping, but somehow this thread has helped me to realise I don't need this stuff, most of it is for some fantasy version of me that doesn't actually exist. I'm now finding it incredibly liberating and am starting to believe I can have a nice tidy house at some point after all...
But don't look at the collection of greenery I gathered to make wreaths at Christmas that are quietly withering in the dining room...:o (I did make a little wreath with DGS and started one for me but sadly didn't quite manage to finish it) BUT it's not in my bedroom so it can wither a bit longer and I will get to it before the dining room appears on my list, honest, it's just not number one priority - this is my point you see - there's so many examples of this type of crazy stuff that it's impossible to prioritise so I just started where I started and I WILL finish...
I also started on my bottle and jar collection in the kitchen, just in the spare few minutes whilst tea was cooking and made incredible progress just in that little time, so just take little steps and you'll get there.
How can people throw out sewing things, or candles ?

Please be kind to me, I want to join in but I'm not sure I am ready yet.

I'm going to run away now and will come back and read a bit more when I feel less anxious.....

Please don't run away, you don't have to throw away everything. I've thrown away some sewing things, well given away or sold as this is my main problem, I don't like just throwing things away. But I still have some stuff that I will probably use and I know that the stuff I have parted with wouldn't have been used in reality.
Burning candles is not a leisure activity for me as I have cats and prefer not to set the house alight:rotfl::rotfl:

oystercatcher - I picked up this challenge by listening to other posters a year ago who said "feel the fear and do it anyway" - it was scary, still is sometimes, as I have had to face up to who I am, who I was, who I am not and who I am never going to be - but I haven't regretted reducing my belongings. I always said "I've never regretted things I've bought, only the things I didn't" well now I realise I was in denial and have learnt to regret some of my bad purchases so that I learn not to make the same mistake again

    Wise words as always blossom...

Well I've just been listing some more on ebay as have completed operation de-hoard bedroom 1:p. Need to clear the stuff from the house now before I can move onto next stage...

Take care all, must go walk mad doggy and then off to bed x
