I've taken up the hobby of watching movies at the cinema. It's still cheaper than buying a DVD, the sound is better and if I really wanted it badly enough, I can download it to see at home.
I watched The Hobbit this evening. I had the entire cinema to myself. That's something a plastic case with a yellow sticker on in the supermarket can't provide.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
lir - is your OH buying these things in supermarkets? He is an intelligent man but he may be being influenced by the nanotechnology they are using to subliminally influence men - such as almost imperceptable vanilla fragrance which mimics breast milk
(edit just realised he's getting it free, so not supermarkets then!)You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

It isn't for us. Especially as DH buys massive popcorn. We do go very occasionally.
I used to go loads when I was in the city.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Stroppy DD today. She is such a hoarder but I have absolutely refused to allow her new bed to be put up until she has decluttered her hoard of general bits and clothes. In her defence she is very dyslexic and it has always manifested in her in inability to organise her surroundings. I have given her loads of strategies but now it is just plain "stick" rather than carrot:mad:
Ohhhhhhhhhh...is THIS why I am so disorganised? I am dyslexic and sometimes when I am sat by the computer and write notes down on a bit of paper it is CHAOTIC, only I can decipher it. When people see that piece of paper I tell them that THAT is what it is like inside my brain!! :rotfl:
And this is also what the rest of my house looks like, if you have strategies you can tell me I would gratefully receive themlostinrates wrote: »:rotfl:
Brilliant, and cheered me up!
His full haul this week was the tobasco, a yoga mat, two pairs of plastic flip flops, a (branded) hat, half a dozen kids t shirts (we don't have kids) and a ruck sack. Oh and some tiny cool things for lunch boxes.
He is thrilled because it was all free.....I am deflated becuase it's all Richard.
Awwww bless him, can you persuade him to ebay some and maybe pass the things you don't need (kids things) onto friend's and family that do need things like that? I'm sure he will feel good getting money for free things
Who was talking about selling wedding dresses? I will probably be looking for a 2nd hand one as I would love a nice dress but not the price tag of a new one  where is a good place to look for them?
I liked the idea of the dressmakers package to remember the dress by too.Don't turn a slip up into a give up

I got up this morning needing to make bread and y'know what? Some thoughtful person had cleared the kitchen counter and it was all ready to go.
Gosh, I live alone, that musta been me last night. It's great to have formed a good habit.
Had to laugh about the armful of freebies Mr LiR fetched home to add to the hoard. Freebies are a hard one, even if they're not household-appropriate such as kiddy tee-shirts to a childfree home. I'm sure someone would be very glad of them, though. I was once very glad to pick up 2 sturdy backpacks for 50p each from a bootsale.I unpicked the conspicious logos; they seemed likely to have been freebies from a marketing drive. Excellent things, lasted for years.
Today I'm be mostly pre-occupied with that dastardly business of earning a living, but will be planning some decluttering as this looks like a snowed-in weekend with no gardening on the cards.
Take care, everyone, GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I seem to need to clear up at night now - I stand up dog-tired to go to bed, then notice a few things in the drainer and think I'll just put them away - I blame the pesky poster on here who put the idea into my head of doing "today's jobs today" - I used to be that advert of the woman handing washing up from the night before to her morning self. The only thing on the drainer at night is the 3 cats/1 dog bowls soaking ready for morning
As discussed thanks to (Byatt, I think it was on) the last thread, I have to keep things in view otherwise I forget them. But conversely I can go against the designers' advice and NOT keep frequently-used things handy, because I think it's good for me to stretch to a high shelf for the teabags 4x a day, and will never forget to have a cuppa.
So I have decided to tackle the forgetfulness with a good system, and have been using my smart phone calendar to remind me to sort out say a bag of stuff that I've put out of sight, or to review a stash of something for which I have deferred decisions. It is working well and might be helpful to someone else
Surplus 2013 calendars and diaries have now gone to CS (freebies from companies) - anyone else hanging on to one they won't use? Why not donate it now while they still have time to sell itYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Yep, free....he used to have a pound shop 'thing' but I have broken that habit.
The free stuff is harder. Because....it's free. You just have to look at the competition wins on MSE to see how much people like free tat or tat on special offer!
He is very 'generous' with his luck and persuading him to share will be fine...it's just...not sure who will want lots of the stuff. (his sister got a nother free bag full of branded free 'gifts' from the same client. Some is supossedly collectible, so eBay might be an option.
We have a lot of it. T shirts and fridge magnets especially.0 -
Ah the days of corporate freebies! I remember a colleague and I persuaded our boss we needed a particular computer course because the trainers gave logo'd clocks at that one and we already had 2 calculators from their other courses and fancied a change. Then the mug, then the umbrella ...
Dericharded the calcs a month or so ago, after 10 years, and the clock, never use logo'd mugs even at work (yuk) lost the brollyYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0
