Hoarding - A New Start

Well done WW!
Do you know what, I was a bit despairing about how things were going slowly lately while I was concentrating on a commission, but today I did a mad hour dashing round putting things away and ... it was so easy ... because of all the groundwork I have done over the last few months, the admin was all recent and just needed filing, I easily found the bill I needed to pay, I knew straight away what to do with recent brithday cards, things jump out at me as being out of place so I am less tolerant of them ... it is all coming together I think
I am still hoarding and untidy but do you know what I mean about it being recent hoarding, with a purpose, rather than the almost aimless refusal to get rid of anything without having an immediate need for it
My kitchen carousel now just has food in it (no salt pepper sets, no empty containers) - there is conversely no food in the other cupboards, so that has made space for things like butter dishes. I may still have two (ok, I have) so need to address that, but they are no longer hiding, they are lined up for a decision
I have a stacking set of containers - I always kept them in a stack, in a food cupboard even when some were empty and washed out - and have realised that I would never look there for an empty container, so they were always underused. Now full ones are in the food cupboard (carousel) and empty are in the containers cupboard

Sounds like real progress BH!
Have moved all my cookery books onto the shelves in the dining room and they look really good. Going to move the unit with the book case on top into the hallway, get rid of the TV unit which serves no purpose from the dining ro`om and move one other unit to where the book case unit is now.
Net result will be 2 less pieces of furniture in the dining room
Have bagged up 2 bags of books and probably another 2 bags to collect up to go to cs or recycling centre (they have a container for books).
I had a real worry - last year mum asked me to eBay some Royal Albert china for her and it became the elephant in the room. All boxed up on a shelf in the dining room, glowering at me. I vaguely knew that Royal Mail don't insure china and it was really niggling that I needed to deal with it.
Cue OH last night taking the bull by the horns (when I told him how much it was bothering me) and taking photos, then we did research - yep, RM don't insure chain in standard mail. Also checked the prices on eBay and one similar piece sold for £2 recently.
Spoke to mum and we agreed that the risk of breakages (and being out of pocket) versus the potential gain (5 pieces, maybe £30 before fees) was not worth it so I will return the items to her next time I see her. Such a load of my mind and such a silly thing to be worrying about .
So that freed a whole shelf up for my cook books :rotfl:
Finally, got rid of a box of blackberries OH was given by his old company 3 years ago which we had plans to fix up and sell - they are now obsolete so absolutely no use to us but found a charity who were happy to take them (even knowing the age and condition).
So glad things seem to be moving here again0 -
The road to hoarding hell is paved with good intentions
It has taken nearly 2 hours to do houseworky chores but the place looks so much better, the food bin and rubbish has been taken outside and the recycling is ready to go tomorrow. The vacuuming will be done in the morning (otherwise it'll get done twice and I'm not that angelic yet.
Is OCD cleaners on tonight? Hope so, then I can watch it on the tele rather than the laptop.
I am really looking forward to drawing the curtains and putting my pj's on. But it is still a little early.
Okay, work is calling.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Minor decluttering today as I had an interview this morning :j which I have fingers crossed for; I had to produce umpteen pieces of paper to prove I am who I say I am and in doing so have emptied one filing tray into the shredding. Small thing but it's done.
I also have a stress headache from (I think) the after effects of planning, research into the company and yapping for the best part of an hour about me and why I would be great for the company :rotfl:
It didn't help that when I went to work they've put a countdown calender on the board so we can all see how few days we have left there. I found that extremely depressing and could have howled my eyes out.
Early night and hot bath beckons. Am shattered.0 -
Good luck This Year.
I had an impromptu sort out of my stationery box. It was one of those wonderfully compartmentalised containers, which unfortunately DD dropped all over the floor - drawing pins and other lethal necessities all over the place. So I was good and started sorting it straight away, realised that I don't have a fountain pen, therefore I don't need 42 blue cartridges, I also don't need the elastic bands or treasury tags, so I thought I'd pass them on to family with strict instructions to bin if they didn't want it. I then realised how selfish I can be. I found two very big paperclips, nothing special just a lot bigger than normal. Again, don;t use and won't use, but brother probably will. And I struggled to let them go. Luckily DS has to pop out tonight so he's dropping stuff off and posting stuff en route.
Tea is cooking and it will soon be time to for telly!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Today I have.................rested for the most part!
Feeling much much better for it but still extremely chesty
I waited for OH to come home from work to go grocery shopping so we could go in the car rather than wearing myself out during the day going on the bus for it and even though it meant dragging the kids along it was still a lot less strain than it would have been
I did get rid of one bag of clothes which was the stuff waiting to go to my friend , she popped in for it todayNo more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
aw TY, good luck with the job
cleared out some glasses, enjoying the space in the cupboard ... realised that I could now put the nice glasses (wrapped in newspaper) from the worktop in there ... but am being possessive about the free space ... wouldn't I prefer space on the worktop ... mmm no, because I know it would fill up againa quickly
Switched on OCD Cleaners - if black mould on a fridge door kills you ... I am doomed! Doomed!

I had a small LBM today as I was cramming yet another plastic charity bag into a draw full of them.
Why on earth am I keeping them? Regrettably I never remember to put them back out if not being filled and was "saving them"!!! What for???
They have gone in the recycling and nearly one whole draw is now empty :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
