My OH takes over the dining table, it drives me daft, we had friends visit for lunch on Friday so he cleared it, but I see it is accumulating again, until the winter arrived we ate at the table every evening, think I must start going back to that.

My DH does that - starts at the edges and works in until we end up eating on a small area of clear dining table - it drives me mad. Following The One Show where they did the interview with the lady who was a hoarder and her daughter I've found the 'helpwith hoarding' (or whatever it's called) website and me and DH going to have a look at it together. Think he needs help but it's up to him to decide and he needs to want to change otherwise nothing will happen. In the meantime I have to be patient, understanding and not chuck stuff out behind his back (despite MIL's constant prompts I won't do that).

In the meantime I'm decluttering the kitchen and tidying up in the vain hope it may prompt him into action?!

    Hello OldMcDonald

I am a fellow newby on here but I real have been made to feel welcome by all so I know you will love it.

I posted a couple of my declutters on the other thread as I belong on both LOL and I have just realised that everyone including myself feels guilty at times that they haven't done much. Isn't that amazing since we don't know each other but are united in our quest to beat our demons of clutter/hoarding. Its a breath of fresh air and just what the doctor ordered. :)

It's not a quantity issue IMO. Say you have 30 empty clean jamjars sitting in a kitchen cupboard, waiting for when your life becomes less hassled and you take up jam-making. They're clean, they're tidy, they're contained, they're not attracting vermin or causing a fire hazard.

So, are they a problem? Possibly, if their presence in the cupboard means that other things are homeless, getting shuffled from counter to counter, getting dusty and damaged and causing aggravation to you and other household members. If you de-jamjarred, you could rehome other things into the cupboard, and increase your quality of life in the process.

Have you been in my kitchen??:rotfl: Seriously I really didn't realise the extent this hoarding was impinging on the rest of the space. Which seems crazy now! Had a delivery of 24 tins of catfood yesterday and managed to get it in the cupboard, this is unheard of and there's still some room in the cupboard:T

The dining table is a big problem area for me - I clear it for visitors, then within a day stuff starts to go back on it! Nightmare!

    .

The dining table is a biggy for me. It's where my piles start and then I move them so we can eat and then I have hotspots burning all over the room!! Must, must get better with this.

Did a table top sale on Sunday (at last) and actually did ok, made a bit of cash and got rid of a few things. I had a box of FREE stuff that I just wanted rid of and that went down quite well, although did bring about half of it back home:( Have booked again next week. Also listed some more stuff on e-bay whilst it was free listing.

Well off to put my hot water bottle in my bed before walking crazy doggy.

    Take care all XX

When dh worked from hme previously we only had the dining room. Now we have the study so he can take over that. :):).

So, two candles out now, and a new one started in the bedroom. I think there will be two more being used up down stairs in the next week.

We have to think about clearing out the guest room now. It's about to be made the bathroom, so we have to decide whether to try and fit in the wardrobe and chest of drawers in the house or to put them in a barn for some years (these are definitely not Richard. They belonged to dh's mother and we both like them.

Thanks for the support folks I think I have my finger In so many pies at the mo (so to speak) I'm trying to go everything for everyone and my emotional state is suffering whilst I try to juggle things like I never have had to before. At least I don't have much time avail ATM to buy things! But OHs mum has been watching the kids a lot and I'm sure more stuff enters my house from hers by the day but I'm not there to see it coming in. That bothers me! It's like I've lost control! Ah well, I at least have a day off from work tomorrow!can regain some of my sanity!

Re the clothes thing : I went to put on a dress for work today. I bought it in October but it was 'new' hung up with its tags still on, well I put it on and found the stitching had come apart at one side it was faulty and rendered useless and I don't think now, mid February, I'll have much in the way of return rights!

  • Still no sorting out here, we're on standby for OH having surgery either this morning or afternoon to put in a stent to bypass the kidney stone that is causing him pain. He went for an MRI scan last night and by the time we got the 30 miles home the SHO had left a message for us to ring, turns out the blockage is so bad they are concerned about kidney damage.

Need to make an early start on some urgent work then hopefully we'll know which list they can get him on.

On the dericharding front I'm getting worried that I'm getting used to seeing the new piles that I've created and I'm in danger of not getting restarted again, need to work out how to get restarted after a break? Any thoughts?

Pit lane piglet. Dericharding is not
Th e most pressing thing for you right now!

But....it might keep you calm once he is in hospital. Just tackle one pile.. Just one of the new ones.

Edit: too many lirisms so tidied this up a bit.
  • :Big sigh: OH has been bounced off the list for today so now has to go in tomorrow. At least I got a day working from home today, back on again for tomorrow!

    Thinking about you both xx
  • Fingers crossed for tomorrow pitlanepiglet, hope it all goes ok. :)

I've discovered the 'forty bags in forty days' challenge which starts today. The idea is that you declutter by filling a black bin bag (or carrier bag or whatever) of stuff, be it for charity, eBay or bin, every day during Lent. Rather than give up chocolate or alcohol or something like that, this is what I'll be doing. Anything to help the process. :)

They also have a Facebook page so people can help each other on.
