Progress slow here - both me and my little one are unwell. I did a massive tidy before our guests arrived last weekend but can feel things slipping. The dining table is a big problem area for me - I clear it for visitors, then within a day stuff starts to go back on it! Nightmare!
Speaking of the dining table and sideboard too, listed them both on eBay last weekend. Just praying someone buys them as I've already seen a much smaller table I like.
While tidying the sideboard I found my box of candles and joss sticks, most of which date from at least 10 years ago. I love my joss sticks but husband has a nasal problem that means anything strong like that sets his nose off. So I havn't been able to use them for years but equally don't want to throw them.May offer them to my Mum.
My Ebay listing spree is going well, even though most items are only selling for a pound or two. Space and extra dosh is a win win for me.
Keep going, everyone and be kind to yourselves."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -

Sorry that you and your little one are poorly, I hope it passes soon.
My OH takes over the dining table, it drives me daft, we had friends visit for lunch on Friday so he cleared it, but I see it is accumulating again, until the winter arrived we ate at the table every evening, think I must start going back to that. I tend to have clutter spots in the kitchen and on a corner of the sideboard:o I had a friend, long since deceased sadly, who said she needed to have people to stay every week in order to keep her house tip top, as she much preferred being in her beautiful garden, she used to tease me so much because I once found a pair of DIL's sandals under the spare bed weeks after she had visited, funny thing was she had sort of missed them, but not enough to have worked out where they might be:rotfl:The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Sending hugs to everyone, we all have our reasons and whatever anyone else thinks (big hoard/clutter versus small hoard/clutter) if we have it in our head then its an issue for us.
I am thoroughly disgusted with myself today as I have not done the work I intended to do especially since until I do it I cannot clear spaces....Yes I have been sat here poised ready looking at spreadsheets and accounts (trouble is I do have to do it, I get paid for it so thats a late night for me then!)but alas thats as far as it went,
So I threw the towel in and went to collect my kettle. Whilst out I met a neighbour and gave her a lift and then whilst waiting for my kettle a lady lost an envelope of money. She was in such a hurry she couldn't even retrace her steps thinking it was a lost cause and promptly paid with her card but I eyed her purchases, ran across the shop to where she had been and spied the white envelope poking out from under another item........ caught the lady as she was about to leave....One envelope full of money and a really happy lady :T
So I may not of been any use to myself but I certainly was of use today. Oh and I went out and came back NO additional items even though there was bargains to be had .... Yay :j0 -
sjprmc01 - no need to justify yourself. This thread has helped me (admit that I'm as much a hoarder as OH!) and got me slowly working to clear it.
Tattycath, I have clothes with tags still. I got rid of oodles of them last week to the cs but still found more today when I was looking for my smart black cardi (anyone seen that?)
GQ wise words, as ever.
JazzyJ well done. Hope this thread is helping you xx
Lovely tale about the lady's money, that is really nice to hear.
Whitewing hope you're feeling better xx
Suzitiger my cards and photos are in the bottom of my wardrobe so I can virtually only hang blouses up - needs must I should sort or at least move them!
Bexim, I have some candles that had melted one summer and are badly mis-shaped. I'm chucking them out as I'll never melt them to reform into a safer shape to burn, and they'll sit in the drawer for ever and a day if I don't.
lobbyludd - what a horrid situation to be in! Can't you give him some sort of "notice" to remove his stuff by 30 days or it will be disposed of? Especially after this length of time! Hope you get it resolved soon.
Byatt, I can understand how you feel. My filing has been shouting at me for weeks maybe months for attention but I'm deaf in that ear
LIR, I also found a hat I sent to the CS last week has walked back here. He'll never ever wear it. He only bought it because it was raining heavily, a shop was closing down and he felt sorry for the staff and bought this hat for 20p, I think. Yet it's destined to stay in my house forever!
Catriona, any progress is good. Well done on the ebaying, hope you sell it all! Hope you and LO are better soon.
maddiemay, we always use the dining room table for meals otherwise it would just mount up with shizzle (as DD puts it) it does make a difference having a clear space!
I've had my interview, I think it went OK just wait to hear now. I won't mention the train cancellations, the roadworks, the subway being closed and the long pedestrian diversion to get there in the first place, eventually got there about 1 minute before my appointment!

This is a lovely, supportive thread - I'm so pleased to have found you all, hope it's ok to join in
I'm currently trying to declutter our house and it is such hard work. I have issues with hoarding anything that passes through my fingers. Food and paperwork are my two main demons. I regret ever discovering Approved Food
At the moment I'm working through the kitchen and have chucked out over a bin liner of out of date food today - some of it was probably still edible and I hated wasting it but I really need to get it out of the house as it was all getting overwhelming.
I have some more cupboards to go through tomorrow, I've already had a peak and found a tin of peaches dated 2009. I moved early 2011 so I must have moved these out of date peaches with us. Insane!0 -
:T Welcome aboard oldMcDonald, good to have you with us. I'd eat those peaches if they were mine and they appeared OK when the can was opened. I've eaten older tinned fruit than that.
A few years ago, I assisted a pal on a kitchen declutter. Bearing in mind that in the years since these spices were purchased, she'd moved home several times and even had a period of homelessness whilst her stuff was stored by friends......and we found some stuff in her spice rack with pre-decimal prices on.:eek:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hello & welcome oldMcDonald!
I found a wooden hangar during the clearout this weekend - it was from Timothy Whites and cost 7p! Needless to say, it's a keeper!
Doubt I'll get much done here tonight or tomorrow, we have a viewing tomorrow night, so that'put the kibosh on.
Hugs to anyone who needs them!Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
