I wasn't the one who activated it again, but once it was active, the change of emphasis by DWP was worth making.
I don't know if there's any way threads which have been inactive for an extended period can be automatically locked. I've actually be caught out a couple of times by somebody adding to a new thread. When reading content you don't necessarily pick up on the date the thread started.

DWP are trying to phase out Simple Payment cards completely. There are a number of banks who have signed up to provide a basic account with no overdraft facility and this should avoid the problems outlined above about accessing funds.
From a processing viewpoint, Simple Payments are anything but simple. It's necessary to either provide the claimant with a 10 digit, one off code for a single payment or for the claimant to wait 3 working days for a card to be received. I'm aware that many shops who initially were willing to sign up to the system withdrew as they were being flooded by people trying to obtain large amounts of cash. Small businesses don't generally hold, or want to hold, large sums on site.

I was surprised when I read about it that any small shops had signed up to it - they're effectively saying 'hey, my till's full, make me a target'.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Why not, there is nothing wrong with adding to old threads.

Unfortunately MSE in recent years decided for no real reason, that perfectly good & still relevant threads should automatically be locked after 2 years inactivity.
