Simple Payment Card: Retailers Refuse To Pay

I just recieved a 'simple payment card', 3 different paypoint retailers refused point blank to let me use it to withdraw cash.

I have £800 approx in the account which is months worth of backdated esa, I cant get at it, not had a penny since 8th august.

Do retailers have any duty to pay?
if not, in the extreme circumstance of none of the retailers wanting to pay - what can you do?

Thanks for reading.

Were you trying to withdraw it all?
As I understand it, there is a 600 pound a day limit.

Read everything available online, aware of the £600 limit.

There seems to be no law forcing them to pay... this card has been brought in without any legislation to back it up it seems.. the vast majority using the card are *very* disabled, not 'just' ridiculously unreliable through mental ilness as I am.

the fact the majority using the card are very disabled kindof explains why theres no mention of problems with the card anywhere online, they are likely incapable of complaint or are pitied by retailers.

giving out thousands in benefits will lead to an empty till.. the government has screwed up on this card scheme.

the paypoint site has only one page for the simple payment card.
Every mention of it online is a copy of that info and the pdf you posted is the leaflet that comes with the card in the post.

I was trying to find legislation about the card, paypoint etc... nothing.

Just wondering. Why did you get your ESA back pay on a payment card?

Not particularly. My question was a genuine one as I was paid my ESA back pay into my bank.

I haven't heard of the DWP issuing payment cards for anything and I was keen to learn more.

    Happy New Year.

Neither have I and I work for DWP. Perhaps a Paypoint in a Post Office will be more likely to pay out. I would imagine that small local shops won't be carrying that much money that enables them to pay that sort of sum out.

Found out. Simple Payment Cards have just being introduced in autumn this year.

They replace those who were paid by cheque... should the claimants not have or not able to access a bank account.
