In her own way ! Saying how nasty some of us are, and how we ruin threads.

And yes I have deleted my post, as I really can't be !!!!* with anything Boot888 does any more.
Hazel_ has gone and the post was directed at her.

ETA - Look her up sometime. She's a charmer. Although some of her lovely threads have been deleted by MSE .

Fair enough, as I said I haven't really come across her before.

    Oh good grief! :D

Cue lots of posts and pms begging you not to leave. ;)

I've been reading this thread from the beginning. I started to have some suspicion (couldn't quite believe SS would have acted so quickly in this situation- unless their were details we didn't know about of course) just as Bestpud posted but was giving the OP the benefit of the doubt until this last post! What a completely unnecessary exit!

  • I reported my neighbour for child neglect, she spent her money on fags and drink, didn't mind leaving the poor kid on his own whilst she went to the 'offy'. Her dog was starving and I reported that to the RSPCA. Social Services were round the next day. How long do you think they should take? A week? Two weeks? A month? In the light of all the bad press of child abuse cases, they simply cannot 'pop round when they feel like it'.

Hope OP and her nieces are ok.

I have no idea how long I would expect them to take. I think it's because of the bad press that I expect them to take longer. After all, if there are cases where they can't prevent a child's death because they are not as present and efficient as they should, then it's understandable to be surprised they would act so quickly in this case. I'm happy to be proven wrong though!

I was told by the director of children's services a couple of years ago that in our borough there were 3000 reports to social services between Christmas and New Year that year (in the context of discussing the cuts in service and overwork of social workers). It is a very busy time of year I think.

I do not deny that some threads are like this.

However, in the absence of a confession (very rare), you [in the generalised sense, not personally] will never know whether you have called it correctly.

The OP on such threads often disappears so we don't hear whether they have been bullied into giving up on this site as a place of help, or whether they gave up when they got found out. All we tend to get are the jubilant crows of 'Knew I was right' (or similar) from the original doubters - and that conclusion is not justified one way or another on the evidence.

Over the past few months, threads have increasingly been jumped on by the doubters / cynics as they develop. You can almost guarantee it happening now. This place has become increasingly hostile to those people who may genuinely be in need.

I am just a little fed up with it. And, as I predicted, the thread has now become derailed. I believe the OP was genuine and I suspect that she won't bother coming back on here for more support.

Even if she wasn't, other people may have found the thread useful. Again that opportunity will be increasingly denied, particularly when prospective posters see what happens to those who post for help as newbies.

And I find that sad. I would rather have the chance to help someone than not.

Open forum, I know, and if you post on them you must expect readers to take what they want from them. Again a generalised comment rather than at this poster, but I also find it sad how salaciously people sometimes read these threads (not this one specifically), begging for soap opera style updates.

I've been a member on MSE for some time now, and generally it seems increasingly intolerant on all boards. This used to be the one which was a relatively safe refuge. But no more. I'll continue to post because I feel it's worthwhile and I hope that I'm helping someone.

    *End of musings.*

OP, hope you get things sorted out.

I have noticed this too. I took a break from MSE last year because of personal issues and since coming back I have noticed a definite change in how people are spoken to on here. Maybe it's because it is so much bigger than it used to be, but it's definitely not a particularly nice place to be any more. Mostly I just lurk and only post on TTC and the miscarriage threads these days but I think that by the end of this year I'll have stopped using MSE completely. It's just not a safe place to ask or discuss anything any more, for some reason. Maybe there's been loads of trolling that's made people suspicious and a bit more aggressive than they used to be, I don't know, but it is very different to how it was before.
