prestige saucepans all fallen apart:guarantee?

I am also the proud owner of a set of Prestige copper bottomed wooden handled saucepans - bought around 1980 and brought out with us when we emigrated to Australia.
I found this forum because I was searching for some way to get the handles fixed! The saucepans are in excellent condition - except for the handles! So that is nearly 30 years. The handles have been tightened many times, but still suffer from revolving or spinning syndrome (and I note the post warning how a handle broke off when the pan was full of boiling water ... there but for the grace of God ..) anyway, as others before me, I am loathe to throw my saucepans out! I have a chip pan, two large saucepans, two middle sized and a milk saucepan and it seems a great big waste to replace them.
Since it's going to be too hard to get the inheritor of the parent company to be of any help, it seems I'm just going to have to throw them all out.0 -

In 1997 one of our affiliates purchased the Prestige brand name. For over 50 years the Prestige brand had become synonymous with household cooking in the UK and many export markets. Since the acquisition Prestige has been re-established and re-invigorated as a major brand of products known for their quality, performance and value. The Prestige brand now embraces cookware, bakeware, kitchen utensils and is a growing brand in the small domestic appliance category.
I had the same problem where the handle came off an otherwise perfectly good Prestige saucepan with a Lifetime Guarantee so I wrote to the address given here and explained the problem. They came back to me and asked me to send them the pan, which I did - it cost me a few quid in postage but I reckoned it was worth it. The date stamped on my pan was 07 98. Meyer wrote back and said that yes, my old pan was indeed faulty and offered me a choice of their current range of pans as a free replacement, and I chose a Circulon Elite pan, which arrived a couple of weeks later. I was very happy indeed that they honoured my guarantee in this way, and I've been pleased with the new pan - and indeed with the rest of the set of the old ones!0 -
I bought some Prestige pans with a 25 year guarantee about 15-20 years ago. These were the dishwasher proof ones with plastic handles. We didn't have a dishwasher at the time but I was hoping to have one eventually. However the design of these handles was poor, when washed in the diswasher they fill with water which slowly leaks everywhere afterwards. (Has anyone else had this problem?) Two of the handles have now come off, as the bolt inside has broken.
By strange coincidence we have just been given some old Prestige pans by a friend for our daughter to use at university. These have wooden handles and seem to be OK so far. (But we can't put them in the dishwasher). Reading the previous posts there is no chance of a replacement under guarantee, so I may try the person who can do wooden replacement handles. (I too hate throwing things way, which is why my house is full of stuff!). I am not sure I will bother paying a lot of money for pans again. I wonder if long guarantees really worth having?

I bought a 3 set of "lifetime" copper bottom stainless steel pans about 25 years ago. They are still going strong and look as good as new. Based on some of the comments on here, I must be lucky. I can honestly say they are brilliant. One thing has always baffled me though. They have a lifetime guarantee...is that MY lifetime or THEIRS? If it is the lifetime of the pan and they break after 5 yrs, then surely their lifetime is up!0

i have a set of prestige saucepans and they are less than a year old, the handles have fallen off, they don't tighten up when they become loose as the bolts are not long enough.i will never buy prestige again0

The comments concerning Prestige 'Lifetime Guarantee' saucepans are all interesting. We too have some pans of this type with ligt-coloured wooden handles, a wedding present from August 1993. These handles gradually come loose, then eventually cause the pans to revolve wildly when loaded. I'll examine the handle fixing to see if I could make use of the replacement beech handles mentioned above. It's a shame - the pans themselves have been fine, it's just the handle design.0

bit unfair to blame the new company for a product they did not make.
The old company went bust, why should the new one pay to replace a product they did not sell or did not make any money off.
It would be like moving into a new house and having to pay any unpaid debts of the previous owner!0 -
I have this Prestige "Cook N Look" set of four pans http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/7/1/1/9/1/4/webimg/301143900_o.jpg?nc=628 they have a steel handle with rubber encasing the metal. They come with a "Prestige Lifetime Guarantee".
Like many of you, the handle has came apart, the rubber section fell off in the sink as I was washing up! I do dishwash them sometimes (dishwasher safe) but with stainless steel it's just as quick to wash by hand.
These aren't even that heavily used (singleton till recently who microwaved mostly!) and I've had them around four years so it seems pretty poor. The rubber casing doesn't seem to be screw-on, it's been glued as far as I can see (?) so no way of attempting a repair myself.
There doesn't seem to be any date on the bottom of my pans, either. Can't find the receipt (BHS online, via Hotukdeals) but fingers crossed.
I'll try contacting Meyer during the week and see if I have any joy.0 -
The problem is what "lifetime" this is. If it's the lifetime of Prestige as a company well, they went under some time ago.
