prestige saucepans all fallen apart:guarantee?

I rang Meyer which took over the Prestige company in 1998, but they don't feel bound to honour the lifetime guarrantie on my pan. Meyer offered to sell me a replacement part if they had one. They didn't.
I hope people will boycott Meyer and other companies in its group (Anolon, Circulon, Silverstone, Bonjour) that treat customers and the environment with such contempt.
Needless to say i will not buy from Prestige or Circulon again.
I was given a set of Prestige pans in 1995 as a wedding present - with the 25 year guarantee. The bakelite-type handles split within a few years and, same as you guys, the guarantee was not honoured. I won't buy Meyer/ Prestige again either.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Hello there - my first post, I'm a very excited newbie!!
Thanks to Derek's post 2 years ago (above) I called Meyer's customer services. They confirmed that they bought the company in 1996, and do not honour any guarantees up to that date. I said I'm sure I bought mine after that - she said - crucially, turn the saucepan upside down and the date is stamped on the bottom, I did and it said "1998".
Great result - she told me to post it off to her (handle had come off) and they would replace with similar saucepan. I told her the handles are wobbly on the rest of the set (cost £130 originally) and she said fine, just send them back, one at a time, or two at a time (so I am not left saucepanles) and they will replace - no need for a receipt, guarentee on the bottom of the pan is for 25 years.
So looking postive so far!0 -
I have a set of stainless steel Prestige pans, lifetime guarantee, which were wedding presents, so are 21 years old. They're still in great condition - apart from the wooden knobs and handles. Most of them are fine, although we do occasionally need to tighten up the screws on the handles as they tend to get wobbly.
A few years ago we contacted them because one knob had got badly split. They sent a new one, it didn't match the others, but it was fine, however it quickly split and now slips off very easily (it did not have the internal brass thread the others did), making it semi-useless, so I contacted them again and they sent another one - and said we'd have to varnish it ourselves, not ideal, but hey ho. However, this one didn't come with a screw, and didn't fit the screw from the previous replacement.
Their response to this was 'we haven't got any screws left, we don't have to honour the guarantee anyway' - effectively 'stuff you'. Not very impressed. I plan to write a letter....0 -
Junking sauce pans is hardly likely to cause an environmental problem. Scrap yards are crying out for metal to recycle. The only thing that would go into the land fill would be the handle. Which as you say, has come off, anyway.
But you have the environmental impact of melting it down, plus the further environmental impact of creating a new item, so scrapping something easily repairable is not good for the environment.0 -
The melting down of scrap metal uses only a small fraction of the energy required to smelt new steel from ore. In any event it might well be that someone with a bit of knowledge and a workshop, could fabricate a new handle. But to get it done commercially, would be uneconomic.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Further to comments regarding Prestige handles falling off. I purchased a set of Prestige pans with the copper bottoms. The handles are (or should I say was) spot welded on in four places. The handle on our large pan has just fallen, the pan was full of hot water and potatoes, the handle just sheered off as it was lifted up. Has anyone else had trouble with the welded type handles?
I will be contacting Myers / Prestige on Monday morning.0 -
Ive had mine for 9 years and again the handles have started to fall off and all the knobs on the lids have come off. Very Very annoying and even more so that the 25 year guarantee seems to be worthless. I certainly won't buy/spend money on their pans again!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
Finally Debt Free...0 -
Just for a bit of balance we have some decent Meyer pans from our wedding over 7 years ago and the handles are all fine. Not spot welded they are screwed I believe from memory.
They have been well used and "dish-washered" regularly so pretty impressed ourselves0 -
Sounds like some of the pans people are talking about on here have screw-on handles. Wouldn't it be easier just to tighten the screws when they get loose rather than (i) wait for them to fall off, (ii) lose the parts, (iii) start hunting around for replacements, (iv) write posts on MSE....0

My mum had prestige pans with a screw on handle and she did tighten them up, again and again and again and again......... you don't expect to do this with a pan do you? I certainly don't!!!
I bought prestige pans with a different type of handle and just noticed the other day that the handles have started to crack (had them for 10 yrs now) so I can't complain but like other posters have said... some have a 15-25 yr guarantee.......... I expect it to last that long!!To be in your child's memories tomorrow, be in their life today.0
