Agree with that, we did 1 day at the Excal (pools only), and did like the pools, nice big mushroom shaped one!
Luxor has some good pools and not to pricey.....

oh and I booked my 3 nts in LA last night...
1 night Hilton using the Hilton MVP rate (no idea what that is, but it saved me £4!!!) - £57
1 night Hilton using HH points - £0
1 night Holiday Inn beach jobby using F&F (thanks Lesley!) - saved £14! - £85.38
So £143 for memorial weekend aint bad! :D:D

Currently planning Vegas trip number 3 and am wondering which of the cheaper strip hotels people would or wouldn't recommend and why?

On our previous trips we have stopped at he Orleans each time then moved on to the Cosmo on trip 1 and the mirage last year. Would like to do a split again next year. We like a decent pool area but apart from that aren't too fussy.

IMO Flamingo fits the bill, cheap, central with a great pool if a little loud! The GO rooms are nice but a bit garish and even the basic rooms are ok now with their fake wood floors.

Donny and Marie have just announced that they have extended their run at the Flamingo until the end of 2014.

The Excalibur may be the best of the cheap hotels on the strip and has a decent pool area. I wasn't keen on the widescreen room we had, which was supposed to be an upgrade, but the OH thought it was fine.

We had been looking at the Excalibur and Luxor as 2 options but will consider anywhere to be honest. £252 and £296 respectively at the min for 6 nights May 2014 which includes Memorial Weekend. That is on lowcostusa
  • has anyone done any 'experiences' or activities they'd recommend? the kind of thing i'm thinking of:

    http://www.bellagio.com/hotel/executive-chef-classroom.aspx

anything a bit unusual/exclusive really, rather than the gun range, thrill rides, etc. and ideally 'on strip'. just wondering what's out there :)

And the performance area at The Flamingo has been renamed "The Donny & Marie Showroom" in their honour!

I'm thinking impulsively and might book Las Vegas for November. When it comes to holidays outside of Europe I don't have a clue so some advice needed. This will be a surprise for my girlfriend and is pending us getting the time off work.

I was looking at Thursday 14th November - Thursday 21st November.

Skyscanner shows flights of around £515 each, possibly some better airlines available for the £580 mark. How are these prices?

A quick look on Booking.com, the first place i checked, and i am surprised at how cheap the hotels are. Considering i have paid £100+ a night at Premier Inn's in the past, I am surprised to see nice double rooms coming in around £750 for the week. Where is best to book hotels?

Also, if time off becomes a problem, i would like to go early 2014. How early on would get me a good balance of weather and acitivities?

    Advice greatly appreciated.

    £515 is a great price...book it.

£750 is a LOT for 7 nights unless you are looking at top end hotels.

have you read the first few posts?

Weather wise November is starting to get colder and wont warm up again til around march time

Not sure what you mean by activities, Vegas is 24/7 all year round

Agree that is a fair whack for a week compared to what you could pay - depends on what you are classing as 'nice' but would hope you could get 'really very nice' for £750 for a week (at current exchange rate that is $170/night).

Agree to read first few pages - you may be able to find better hotel value elsewhere.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

When is Thanksgiving ? That would push the hotel prices up.
