thanks for the reminder - last I checked a couple of weeks ago they did not have their dates up for October and now they do and they do have an open day while we are there so may go again.
Have a great trip!
I think that is something my wife would like, I am not sure about Zoos, may head out there on the 20th, just need to hire the car now.0 -

when I first read about it I thought 'no, no...not my thing' as I don't like zoos in general and some how a private zoo sounded a bit dodgy...I love animals and seeing animals but most zoos are not very nice in terms of how the animals are kept and make me sad...but I read about this and how it came to be and the people who run it and how they run it then came around to the idea.
It is not a massive place and it's not posh, it's in the middle of the desert - but they do seem to do their best to let the animals have space and do seem to make such an effort to educate people about the animals...being able to interact with them is awesome too. We really hope they have the fennec fox making its rounds when we go - they didn't have him (her?) when we were there last time and seeing photos of a friend holding one made us go 'awwww!'
they do recommend going early and we found that was a good idea...maybe we will see you there!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Well that was a bit unexpected!! Been in Yosemite last few days hiking half dome and other trails. Drove in via Tioga Pass and you could see the smoke in the distance - glad we'd spent the money to stay in the park as the 120W has been closed at Crane Flats for the last week or so - and most of the out of park places to stay are along the 120. Not a sign of the fire (or smoke) within the valley floor and all news reports said it was moving NE. Got up early today to return to Vegas to find the trees next to (couple of hundred metres) the road east of Crane Flats on fire! Tioga pass now closed east bound for vallley traffic as well as west bound leaving only 1 of the main routes left open into/out-of the park.
Really glad to be back in Vegas, at the Cosmo knocking back the cocktails at the Chandallier.
Again, a lot of folks will be relying on decent holiday insurance to sort out the hotel chaos around the park. (will they have to wait to see if it was an act of god (lightning strike) or a deliberately started fire???? I can imagine insurance not covering AoG's)
From what I have been reading, the initial start of the fire was a lightening strike, but then the authorities made the decision not to extinguish the fire (in line with the view in recent years that the fires occur naturally to reduce ground growth and encourage strong trees).
Whether an insurer could argue that the sudden spread was an AoG, who knows.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Not excursions as such - we will have a car for a week so we will be out an about in it. We'll go out to Red Rock, might even do the loop round onto Blue Diamond from there. One time we went there was this old style place with a petting zoo, but it was closed because there were fires out there that day. Might go try see it again.
We also thought about Roos'n'more, but we'd need to go in the morning, and it's open the day we move to Platinum (the Sunday) so it's not a very convenient day if we don't get checked in.
We'll be out shopping a fair bit - Charleson Blvd, North Rainbow, Meadows Mall, Outlets (near downtown and south strip), Henderson shopping. We'll also stop into Red Rock resort, Green Valley Ranch, Silverton and some others off strip for buffets during the day when out in the car.
As this is our 13th trip, we've done quite a lot already - Hoover dam twice, Laughlin (might go back there if the weather's not great, we could also go to London Bridge at Lake Havasu City - although we sort of thought we'd do that on a drive from Phoenix on a future trip).
2 more days at work :T
Sounds like you've got a busy itinerary!0 -
I bought a restaurant.com voucher for the Top of the World restaurant last night, had abit of trouble as it kept on looping back round to the payment screen, tried about 4 times then gave up. Anyhow, I got a PayPal notification for the $5, so something has obviously gone through.
Should I receive an email off them? (I haven't), and there is nothing listed under certificates in my account. What usually happens? If nothing appears by tonight, I'll email them.0 -
hello guys,
just trying to book a hotel for the 8th August - 17th August 2014 (venetian)
For some reason their site and others such as expedia wont let me book for longer than a week- any ideas why?
Thanks-0 -
I'm browsing for coupons just now and thought I'd share.
Maggiano's -$30 off $75 by end of September.

Some hotels will only let you book up to 7 days online, but you should be able to book longer if you call them.0 -
Hi everyone,
I've been following this thread for a while and am currently planning a trip to Vegas in October. I think we've narrowed our choice of hotels down to two: the Aria and the Vdara. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the relative merits of these — or would recommend anywhere else instead?
Thanks,

Hello! We've just booked our NY & Vegas trip for October! Slowly making my way through all of the links so thanks to everyone who has posted! I think we will book a trip to the Grand Canyon, but other than that just stay around the strip - so looking for vouchers etc and have signed up to Groupon.
We're staying at The Mandalay (as it was actually cheaper than Luxor with 1 free night). The travel agent recommended Aria but it was over our budget, read some good things about Vdara - sorry that does not help at all!0
