When we did the trip, we went San Fran - Yosemite - Vegas.

It was 2007 so my memory is a bit hazy, but I don't recall the drive to Yosemite taking forever - however the drive from Yosemite to Vegas really did.

We broke the journey from Yosemite at Lone Pine (Bishop also a good option) otherwise it is a very long journey and the roads are windy in parts so average speed is low.

Unless I had it in writing that it includes the resort fee, I wouldn't take a CS advisor's word for it. Taxes and fees normally means the room tax of 12%.

I may be wrong, but I would rather see "resort fees and taxes included" as the Lowcostusa site shows.

I made a massive school girl error last night
I showed him this forum, because I was so excited about the hints and tips and wealth of knowledge.
So he obviously read my OP:o
His hair did go like this
But all he said was.. I hate surprises, glad it wasn't sprung on me!
Lol! I am thinking about doing it on the cheap. A little white chapel somewhere..
No point in doing the massive £5000 bellagio job when we have been together a quarter of a century already and we are both at our half century mark...
I just want him to know that no matter what, he will be my lover for life:A
Blimey, getting emotional. Which isn't usually me.
Thankyou so much for offering tips on wedding planning.. Yes! I need all the help I can get. Obviously x

    Oooops :)

We're the same age and haven't been together as long as you but we've both done the white wedding thing before so wanted something different for us.

You can go super tacky with Elvis marrying you at a drivethrough window or go classy or lots in between all for a very reasonable price. You certainly don't need to pay the Bellagio thousands (although I was tempted by the waterfall at the Flamingo ;) which wasn't ridiculously expensive)

We have (I think) settled on an Italian style wedding chapel with lots of marble in the grounds of a hotel just off the Strip with really nice gardens. Whole thing with the service , flowers, decent amount of photos , dvd, internet broadcast etc comes to under $1000 -we will have a limo after and take some more photos on the Strip and then back for champagne and wedding cake (the Americans do amazing custom wedding cakes really cheaply) in a suite ...trying to decide if we want the suite at the wedding venue so no faffing around -or one with a balcony overlooking the Strip for more wow factor. Whole thing including the wedding night for less than £1000 without the tack factor. You can get a basic ceremony with flowers though at one of the reasonable Chapels for $199 (plus $60 for the celebrant and another $60 for the licence)

If you search on YouTube for the various Vegas venues it gives you a pretty good idea of what each type of wedding is like. There's also a guy who has filmed the outside of some of the chapels - the area where most of the chapels are is a bit skanky and it's good to know if the first thing you'll see when you come out after getting married is a strip show sign or not LOL

would it not work out cheaper if i book petite king and ask for a upgrade when i get there?

Success or otherwise on an updgrade depends on may factors - if you search for $20 trick you'll find a plethora of resources and forums on the subject.

The fact that it's a 3rd party booking *could* impact whether or not you get any joy. Then again so does length of stay, timing of stay (so how busy is the hotel) etc.

My experience at Cosmo is in 2012 3 nights, mon-thurs we got a very good complimentary upgrade for our $20. In 2013 my visible $50 couldn't get us anything as it was spring break/march madness and our stay was 7 nights. The $50 went back in the wallet and we were happy with the room we had.

I think the key is to be satisfied with what you book and any upgrade is a bonus. You can't be disappointed that way.

Both of those bookings were with Lowcostusa and in 2013 (there was no resort fee in 2012) the confirmation email was explicit in sayng resort fee included. Reception gave me the option of paying it at check in, or paying as I went which is the option we took (and paid $0 by not using the tennis courts or the wifi).

We have just done Yosemite as part of our trip, it is a really long drive from there to Vegas but def worth it. We stopped off in Death Valley at furnace creek which was lovely but so hot. Think it took us about 7 hours to drive from Yosemite to Death Valley incl a stop, then about 2 hours from there to Vegas.
We stayed at curry village, that was the first thing we booked about 11 months before we went!

Thanks for the tip! Would you mind me asking who you booked curry village with?
