I know when we were flying AA we specifically chose flights that were showing as 777s vs the 767s (I think) they operated for some flights...it's not a 100% guarantee (there can always be an aircraft change) but better chance of a plane we preferred
    Bingo!

I now go out of my way to pay the extra (if applicable and reasonable) to get the AA 777-200 due to all the economy window seats being in pairs (2-5-2).

Sometimes the difference is less than £10 in cost, but involves a trek to LHW or LAX but you can't do direct to Vegas with AA from MAN anyways so the actual connection point makes no difference to us :)

Just be aware though that AA are now rolling out the 777-300 tho :( this has gone to a 3-4-3 seat config :( gutted!

As you rightly state, SeatGuru will help you here identify which one you book, but (again, as you rightly say), it doesn't stop them from changing it at a later date!!

Out of interest (mainly cos I forgot how it was on my virgin flight 2 years ago)........
But if book with Virgin for LGW to LAS, and say I book now, ready for a flight in May, would you select seats now, or would virgin make u wait a while ??

I only ask cos my booking with Delta (on the Virgin plane) states I can pick my seat from the 18th Feb......
Which makes me think I wont get to pick the same seats as 2 years ago! (the twin seats at the rear of the plane which have extra space down the side!!)

90 days before u can choose seats. I got two pairs of the two across at the back for Miami this summer. Both ways!!! Both booked 90 days and 2 hours before the flight leaves!!!

I know...gutted too when my hubby told me...awful news for us and is part of the reason we are swinging back to Virgin now...the pairs of seats was one of the things we used to justify making a connection and we like AA...it's not at all moneysaving, but we've actually taken it as a reason to just go PE on Virgin...is it completely worth the extra money when we step back and think about it? No probably not...but for now we are managing to justify it.

Oh, forgot to ask, has anyone done a rental without fuel from Dollar TI? I assume they give you the car with a full tank and you return with a full tank and receipt for the last fill up? I think that's what other rental companies do. I can't seem to get the fuel through Carhire3000, when I select to add the fuel upgrade and go to the next page it changes my selection to the Airport. Don't want to be going to the airport as it will be mid-trip for us so we won't be at the airport at either end of the rental period.

As far as I know you will be obligated to pay for a tank of fuel at the desk if you do not select the fuel upgrade...at least that is how it used to work but I found if I had my Dollar Express number against the booking they would ask me if I wanted to pre-purchase or to return full...I always assumed it was because I declined pre-paid fuel on my Dollar Express account that this is how I got around it...it may not be, not sure.

Lately I have just booked the fuel upgrade as I find it's just easier not to worry about returning full and most trips we would use a tank or more...when I used to return full, they never asked for the receipt but I was always sure I had it in case.

    Looking at their T&Cs

    Mandatory local fees
    * FUEL – YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR A TANK OF FUEL WHEN COLLECTING THE VEHICLE LOCALLY (Please see separate section on supplier's fuel policy)

"Only" 397 days to go!! :( Great to read all the trip reports and tips on here though in the meantime. :)

I upgraded the return flights to Premium Economy yesterday. OH still has no idea we're going to Las Vegas. If I can, I don't want to tell him until check-in. Which means I'll need to do his ESTA stuff in secret too.

I just looked up Dollar's fuel policy and it says you have the option of selecting to pay for the fuel at the desk or you can opt to return it full. I suspect this might be another of those 'up sells' where they might have you believe that you have to pay them for their fuel at an inflated price. I need to watch out for this. :)

Will hopefully get our car booked tomorrow, and need to call the travel insurance to arrange an amendment. Then get on with the minor planning.

I know booking direct with Dollar you have the option - but thought with CH3000 (and a lot of other 3rd parties) it was a requirement in the T&Cs.
