I'd hire a scooter -they are everywhere in Vegas lots and lots of seniors use them -however it *can* be bitterly cold in Vegas in December (I've needed coat and gloves before now-it actually snowed the day I left -unusual but not unheard of in Vegas) so a hire car would probably be a good idea too.

All the newer hotels are handicap adapted so access all areas on wheels. I'd either go mid-strip if not hiring a car -but if hiring a car it isn't going to matter. (I'd hire a car if you can distances between hotels on the Strip are deceptive and it's further than you think even for normal walkers.

+1 for midstrip. Depending on your budget will give difference answers
    +1 for scooter.
+1 for distances in Vegas are deceptive. e.g......
Look at hotels around the Planet Hollywood to Mirage part of the Boulevard
......PH to Mirage could take an hour, and that's pretty much what people refer to as mid-strip.....lots of up and down and in and out that add to the time. OK I walk slowly as well!!! But I used to drive from MGM to TI, which are pretty much next door to PH and Mirage.

Temperature.....I've been twice over Xmas. Never found it cold.....most photos of me are in a cotton long sleeve top and a leather jacket.

    Hi Everybody,

I really hope somebody can help me. My mum wants to go to LV but hates the heat so we have decided to go between Christmas and New Year.

Now she is ok walking but would not want to walk for miles and miles. I am going to book with British Airways I think from Manchester to LV.

Could anybody recommend a nice hotel which is really close to everything which would mean my mum would have to walk as least as possible.

I have looked but the more I look the more I cannot make a decision.

    Thanks in advance

All hotels involve walking, but a smaller hotel like harrahs, Flamingo and Quad which are all close to the strip (as opposed to being set back) may be your best bet.

I dont like walking either, (i have dodgy feet and leg) so I hire a car and drive between hotels even if it is only a few hotels along, sometimes even next door!!!

I am sure you can hire mobility scooters though as I have seen loads in the casinos

You do know that BA do not fly direct to LAS. You would have to either go MAN/LHR/LAS or fly AA MAN/ORD/LAS the later one would be my preference.
We have been twice over Christmas and twice over New Year and although it is warm enough during the short days to go with a jumper on, we have always needed coats in the evenings.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

FYI just checked a few dates, and booking a Delta flight LGW/LAS direct (operated by VS) is about £50 less than the same VS flight.

agree with the others and really must stress that no hotel is 'really close to everything'...not if the measure is how much walking will be involved to get to all the things that someone would want to see...there's a lot of moving about involved and a scooter would be the way to go. Hotels have contacts to rent them, I'm sure...or check in advance online...I'm positive I have read of people pre-booking them and they are at their hotel on arrival.

we usually lose weight in Vegas due to all the walking and despite all the over-indulging.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Scooters are known as ECVs in the States - worth bearing in mind if you Google for companies :)

Do check hotel prices before you book flights, as I seem to think NYE can be pricey in Vegas

I agree, there is no one hotel that is close to "everything". It can take 10 minutes to walk from one hotel to the one next door, eg Caesars to Mirage.

Even normally able bodied people comment on how much walking you do in Vegas and how the most important thing to bring is comfortable shoes.

The most expensive night for Vegas hotels is NYE when prices are horrendous. The cheapest time to go is December, before Xmas, but not around the dates of the Rodeo.

What is your budget per night for the hotel so we know whether the Bellagio or Bally's would suit?

20 to 28 dec/21 to 29 dec was when we went, just before the prices quadrupled.
