Prior to this year we took a DSLR+lenses because of wanting to use them at LVMS but other than that we had to choose between leaving it in a hotel room in a case ( too big for any of the in-room safes ), asking to leave it in a hotel safe ( which also generally are too small, they are usually long oblong shaped drawers ), or having to carry it everywhere.
This time we didn't take the DSLR at all, just a smaller, lighter couple of cameras, one to carry around, one especially for the NASCAR.
    This worked out great.
I suppose the question you have to ask yourself is will you regret not taking it with you.
We didn't miss it, but we certainly felt happier not having to worry about it, and our pics look as good or even better on our tv.

Unless there are some specific hi-res images you want to capture for wall decor, etc. then I'd say don't bother. It really does become a pain to carry about and change lenses, etc. I would just take a compact camera which you can slip in your pocket.

alternatively, work out what you would like to capture in advance and take a bespoke photo trip one morning, afternoon or evening rather than trying to snap and enjoy your holiday at the same time.

The VIVA scans located in Vegas (although hard to find now!), are GPS specific, so you have to have 3G and be stood right in front of the scan for it to work on your iphone....

I had a copy of all the scans, but as with anything, the game makers clock onto this, so the coding was changed to be GPS precise! even stood outside the hotel still says you are too far away for the scan to work.......

good plan... you can take the dlsr on the next trip ;)

it's exactly this reason i invested in a decent compact camera, so i can still have manual control and be creative with the settings, but also have a quality piece of kit which i know i can just whack in Auto and get some nice holiday snaps, and slip it back in my pocket. sometimes, even that gets left in the room and my smartphone camera will do.

in reality, the pics are never going to do anything else than sit on Facebook or maybe get printed in a photobook, so i'm not too precious about the images being as amazing as on two grand's worth of dslr kit!
