Always picked up at airport. Always booked economy/compact. Always given something bigger/better e.g. Chrysler Sebring one time, and Ford Victoria Crown another.

last time in vegas, i booked a mustang, and had it brought to me in the garage :) although i was trying to get the camero convert instead, didnt happen!!!

At MCO, i had a intermed SUV, prepaid with fuel, but the guy on the counter (in the garage) must have been in a top mood, as he was like, "hey, your a member, help yourself to any SUV", and then highlighted the top part of my booking, so when i got to the exit, gave em that and my drv license, and then off we went! :D:D
Guess kinda hopeing for that in May...... Will soon see when my trip report comes out! :D:D
  • I hired car from Hertz to drive from North Carolina to Vegas in 2010. We had a pretty standard car at first but we noticed that the cigarette adapter thing was not working, so we mentioned that to the guy and he then upgraded us to a nice premium car. I guess it might be worth looking for any small fault in the car they first give you!

Planning a day trip to the GC (South rim ????)...
Plan is to pickup the Mustang at 8am, then do the 4hr drive..... Looking to go on that skybridge thing (where you can view your own death should it break ! :D ) but not important if i miss it...
Any ideas how much that thing costs to walk on ??

Was planning on having lunch there, and then hoping to catch the sunset, and then do a late drive back....
Is it like 200 miles away from Vegas to where i need to get to ? :)
Or the West Rim, i dont mind either, as long as i can drive to it, etc, park up and go for a long walk :)

    and 1 more thing....
Anyone recommend a courier to use over there to get stuff home ??
IE: to bring an extra bag with US Airways, its $100, and then £36 with KLM, so looking at £100 total to bring back an extra bag.....
I was kinda hoping i could box my stuff and send it back ?
actually, thinking about it, if customs stop the box, even with the tags ripped off, would they try and do me for import tax ?!

that's the west-rim :) - when we looking into doing it it was a rip off and had some sneaky conditions (can't take your camera - you have to buy their photos etc)

ok, forget that one then !! :)
More interested in a nice long drive, see some rocks, do a tribal dance with the locals, and then get back late for $6.99 steak and eggs :D:D:D

The west rim is much closer than the south rim (though arguably the south rim is more the 'proper' GC)...West Rim is about 2 1/2 hours or so, I think, but unless something has changed the last 14/17 miles is a bit of a chore with unpaved and very uneven road surfaces...you may not want to take a Mustang there.

I'd do some research before deciding on driving to the West Rim, just to be sure you know what you are in for.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

To add to ferf's comments, you may find that the small print in your rental agreement invalidates your insurance if you drive on an unmade road.

always got a Dodge Caliber, [\QUOTE]
Boy that was a dump of a car. We had one and had to take it back, it had 40K miles on it and the U/J was trashed. They gave us a Focus and was really impressed. We had a Chrysler 200 last time from T/I

I quite liked the Dodge Caliber, but perhaps it was because it was nice and sturdy and felt safe. I drove a Yaris at home at the time so I guess it felt safe on the roads over there. That said, I wouldn't buy one at home, I've seen them here and they look a bit odd here if that makes sense.

We had a focus from TI in September, had to take it back due to the bump. Was gutted because I really liked it. Seemed bigger than a focus at home though, and was nicely fitted out inside too.

We often end up with a Focus or a Nissan Versa. Had a Kia Soul and a Kia Sportage when only booking the cheapest version too.

Loved the Kia Soul, don't like the look of it much though.
