Why not book one room for one night first just to make sure?

Ha, it's a male thing!! the other one that gets used around here is that things get referred to the domestic committee.

our first trip was with VA - purely as it was the best deal. we had a good experience, so went with them again. we've now been on 5 longhaul VA flights, mainly to start racking up the airmiles.

however in hindsight, it's probably not been worth our while as 3 of those trips were booked during sales, so you only get half the airmiles, which i never realised. so we're still a little way off being able to book anything with a decent saving.

that said, every trip with VA has been absolutely fine and the refurbed planes with new IFE are great.

we'll go with the VA again, mainly to try and use up our airmiles... but as previously said, certainly for LV, the flight times are good and twilight check-in is a brilliant idea.

but if there was a cracking deal with BA or someone else, I wouldn't have any problem changing :)

how does WT+ compare in terms of price to standard cattle class?
To be honest even BA fans will tell you that it isn't as good as VS Prem. Economy, but then it isn't the same price either. Usually it's a couple hundred at least cheaper. If Y was priced at £700 I would expect WT+ to be £1,100ish. (We got it once to LAS for £900 return in a sale)BA have upped the offing in WT+ as of late, you now get the same food as CW, the seats are wider than WT, with only twins on the outsides on the 744. There is a small tray thing in the arm rest to put a drink, there is a footrest, more recline and you are in a small cabin.

We prefer landing in the evening, with departure at 4:15pm we can leave the house in Nottingham at 11am (so no cost of overnight hotel), and go to the lounge for a couple of hours.

Arrive LAS at 8pm and be in the hotel by 9. Shower, unpack and be in either Bahama Breese or PF Changs on Flamingo for 10. Back in the hotel for 11:30 and straight to bed. None of this hanging around all day with jetlag
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks very much - we may keep it in mind...we've been a bit bad at the PE thing lately - keep talking ourselves into it - so will have a look at other options.

We do prefer to arrive a bit earlier though, we tested it...I can see why it's a good thing in some ways arriving later, but not for us...we normally fly on a weekday and stay at an airport hotel so go direct from work...that's actually nicer to me than driving to the airport on the day - makes the holiday seem to start a night early and no stress on the day (twilight check-in is a big part of this for us)...by the time we're showered and changed in Vegas it's a few hours then dinner (PF Changs yay!) then an hour and bed...so not too bad for us.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Has anyone used Hotwire much for booking Vegas hotel rooms?

Its not something I've used before and wouldn't normally consider it but I've seen it mentioned on a few websites that if you choose 5*, Vegas strip south, casino, business centre and pet friendly that the Cosmo is the only hotel you should get.

This is available for my dates at £55 a night which is the price I'm currently paying for the PH.

If I was just doing this for myself I would just take the risk but I am booking for 8 of us. What's the worst that could happen? which other hotels could it be?

I've not used Hotwire, just Priceline. Priceline also have a new thing called 'Express Deals' which is like Hotwire. Have you checked on https://www.betterbidding.com for some more info? I'm not familiar with south strip hotels. As for booking one night to see, not sure I'd do that personally. What if you're happy with that one night then book the rest and get a different hotel. Then you have a disappointment and an unwanted hotel move to deal with. See what info you get on betterbidding if you haven't already checked there. Hope you manage to work it out and get a great deal.

Have used both Priceline and Hotwire for the first time this week as we made a snap decision to go to Vegas after deciding to give it a rest... until the Virgin sale happened last week! In past years i have booked our rooms maybe 4/5 months in advance for the best rate, but with only 7 weeks before we fly i decided to check out Priceline and Hotwire.

I got the Venetian for $101 a night 16-21 June with Priceline and the Cosmo for $51 a night 23-27 June with Hotwire.
