Yes, I read that. It's going to be a "boutique" hotel a bit like Nobu.
There soon won't be any affordable hotels on the strip for people on a limited budget or the guys that just want a basic room to crash.
They are going to push people towards Circus Circus, the Riviera and Stratosphere and eventually, downtown.0 -
Got back from Vegas yesterday after stay for 1week. We stayed at Flamingo & before we arrived I emailed them to ask about the building work that is going on behind The Quad. They said they would per book us a room in the quietist part of the hotel. They did not dissapointment! We were given a lovely room on the top floor (28) with fantastic views if the strip.
The first day we were there Friday 8th it was cold & raining. We were there for a friends wedding on the Saturday & after that the weather just got better & hotter everyday.
This was our 3rd visit to Vegas in the last 4 years & I must admit the place felt very different this time. Bills is a big part of our holiday & it felt really sad to look through the windows at it all derelict 😢
Also, I'm not sure if it is because we usually go in May but everything seemed so much more expensive this time. From the outlet stores to the shops & bars.
Still had a fab time though!
We have booked flamingo in October what was hotel like, you got any tips on entertainment and food in hotel ?0 -
I'm getting ready for our trip to Vegas. Just booking the car hire now, and everything is ready except my luggage. Not long now.
It's our first time flying with Virgin and I was alarmed to see that the hand luggage weight is only 6 kg. You get a better allowance with Ryanair for goodness sake.
Is that the total including handbag/laptop case?0 -

Book a GO room, high floor, strip facing.
In my opinion there are not any good restaurants in the Flamingo. Great location so it's easy to find a good restaurant nearby i.e Mesa Grill at Caesars.0 -

Assuming you are not in Upper Class, you are only allowed one piece of hand luggage including your handbag/ laptop case. I am not sure how strict they are in practice.0 -
i flew with virgin in 2011, its safe to say they were very anal about weight on hand luggage, 3 of us had to do some swapping of stuff!0

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to be very careful then.0

- Your handbag, pocketbook or purse, as you would normally use it (in other words, not just being used to contain items that would otherwise be regarded as baggage).
- Your overcoat or wrap.
- Your umbrella or walking stick (these cannot be pointed or sharp).
- A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
- A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
- An infant’s food (for consumption on the flight).
- A small amount of duty free goods.
- Headphones for onboard use (they’ll need the standard 3.5mm jack).

This is the one thing I dislike about Vegas. We have only been going for 10 years, but the constant change that goes on,seems to be a quest for a " richer, better class of customer".
Vegas really needs to realise it needs the " normal" class of visitor, like us.We don't stay in 5 star hotels, not that we can't afford to,we prefer average hotels, and the money saved pays for the entertainment for the trip. After all,we only sleep in the room, then shower and out for the day.
While we have never stayed at the likes of Circus Circus,Riviera and IP,now the Quad,( although we did once stay at the Strat) and never would stay at any of them,I don't like the new breed of hotels, and shopping complexes that have been going up in recent years.I have only walked through city centre once, and don't need to waste my time doing so again,as the shopping there is not aimed at us.I don't mind them catering for the mega rich, the rich, hell, even those stupid enough to pretend they can afford the Prada and Gucci handbag, when really they know they shouldn't be purchasing it.But they should remember that the majority of people are average joe just like us,who pay a lot of cash just to get to Vegas. We gamble sensibly,we eat food from an Earl of Sandwich,to the odd expensive meal, and we go to about 3 shows per visit on average.
I still think "WE" are the normal visitor to Vegas,as much as the hotel owners may wish for a more upmarket customer.Without the likes of us,I think Vegas would be in decline.I saw that Bills was closed while we were there last week, and that it will be re-opening in 2014,I kind of missed it,I like the coffee shop, and the reasonable gambling prices,
So to read that it looks like another hotel and casino that we enjoy visiting may, next visit,be bypassed is annoying.I actually commented to my wife on this trip the number of roulette machines ( these are one of our favourites to play,we don't feel intimidated like you can on the roulette tables) that were 25 cents minimums last trip ( August last year) had all been changed to $1 minimums this trip.
I love Las Vegas, and hope to be going on many many more visits in the years to come......I just hope they don't price me out of going.0
