bad stuff happens everywhere. doesn't stop me going to London, Manchester, getting on planes, etc.

if you act sensibly and distance yourself from anything that looks like it could kick off, you'll be fine... same as any situation, anywhere :)

agree - Vegas isn't exactly known to be a crime-free place...many factors contribute to it being fairly crime-ridden on the whole (compared to many places)...the thing at LVB/Flamingo was a bit weird to read about as we spend so much time in the immediate vicinity but does not really impact our desire to be there in 3 weeks one bit.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

It doesn't put me off one bit. Bad things happen everywhere. I will be there in four weeks time too.

If u watch CSI Las Vegas, that would probably put you going too !!! :D:D

And as others say, bad things happen everywhere, and a few days later, its back to the norm.......
  • sorry to post off-topic, am happy to take any PMs so not to clog up the thread... has anyone been to Dubai and got any recommendations... am off there for a week, in a month's time.

If only there was a LV-style thread for it! The TripAdvisor forum is useless... why can't everyone be like the MSE LV thread :D

Watching CSI just puts me off watching television.
    It's someone else's fault.
  • We've just returned from Vegas this morning and although we didn't witness the shootings we did see all the disruption it caused with road closures etc. we stayed at the Flamingo and it happened about 800m from our hotel.

With regards to the Flamingo I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. We had the $9 breakfast deal but most days we didn't manage to use it because the tills weren't working and the staff were so unhelpful, in fact they were downright rude! In addition to that the hotel is surrounded by building work and believe it or not the banging and drilling starts at 5.30am every day, Sundays and holidays included. I could go on with my complaints but suffice to say do not go to ths hotel, there are so many others if a similar budget which would be better options.

Has anyone had any good prices for car hire recently? I have tried the usual sites (inc ones from page 1 of this thread). We are going 7th-21st July and will pick up a car from the airport for the full 2 weeks (Ford Focus or similar, don't want a really diddy one but had a Jeep last year and it was unnecessarily large for the 2 of us).

I'm getting the best price from EconomyCarHire.co.uk (£279 inc. additional driver) - has anyone used it??? Am nervous as we've always used Carhire3000 before and always been fine but dearer than others this year.
:staradmin There is no normal, only typical :staradmin

I have said a few times that if bvooking the Flamingo be aware of possible disruption due to noise, a few have said that noise isnt an issue so its good to hear from someone who has just returned.

Having said that it is difficult to get a hotel for a similar price in such a great location (at least it was before the construction).

What other problems did you have i have stayed there a few times and for the money and if you can get a GO room it is great value and I havent had any issues or non that havent been sorted

Dont forget that if you book with CH3000 they will amend price if it comes down and I also think they price match
