new years eve - whats the point??

  • I've never understood why a new year is celebrated, it's just a change of date, which happens every day. I don't understand why people don't make bigger events out of birthdays instead as they are much more personal.

I feel that way, I prefer to celebrate somebodies birthday rather than Xmas, I tend to put more effort and thought into their birthday gifts, and just get something smaller for Xmas, especially when you have so many people to buy for.

We're not doing anything for Hogmany and haven't really done anything since I was pregnant with DD 6 years ago. I do miss not going out, not necessarily to the pubs but I would love to go to a celidh or something like that with the family, maybe next year although DH can't really be bothered with it anymore !

I used to love new years. Going to massive raves or club nights, it was the best night ofte year. Nowadays its just a pain, kids to sort out etc... going to the pub would just be the same as any other night, but with massive pressure for it to be great fun. I do see the point, I think the pressure for it to be this big night ruins it now though

This year, like the past 6 years we will be with the other 82% of the country, in. Saves a few quid and means tomorrow can be enjoyed

When I was younger it used to be a huge deal, we would pile into the Taxi and head into town for some fun and then walk home afterwards.

Now i'm older it's not as much fun and I don't really have the patience to wait for ages at the bar :rotfl:so I tend to have a few cans and goto bed.

Back at home is summer and the whole family is preparing food already(although is 5 pm), barbecau, salads, ice creams, fruit salads, cakes... I wish i was there with them all.
In this side of the world is cold, we are having a nice spaguetti dinner with drinks and chocolate and watching Lord of rings.

Doing nothing this year. Haven't for quite a few years.

This year I'm feeling awful after yet another stressful year, and having a new job that I hate so much I spend my time in work thinking of ways to injure myself to get out of work (I haven't ever done anything).

I admitted to myself this year I'm suffering from depression and got a diagnosis of severe clinical depression from the drs.

I don't want to die but I hate life. I feel a failure that I have a new job and can't cope with it, I feel a failure towards my family that I dont want my job to help support them.

I'm sat in bed now, tearful and counting down the days to my next day off work as it will at least be respite from it.

And after bringing you all down, I hope 2013 brings you love, health and happiness. Xxxx

I'm having a wonderful NYE at my computer and finishing off my dissertation whilst my OH is in the pub!

(OK, I may be using MSE as a little distraction every now and then...)

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
