No I moan about street noise every year. We just ignore it the best we can. Sick of all the blinkin' fireworks. I'd like to be able to get to sleep early and come up smiling on 1st Jan for a big springclean, but last year we had local fireworks till 5am.

I've got 5 little ones (well, sort of, biggest is 10) and we aren't doing anything. Might do hot chocolate and marshmallows later but that's about it! I don't really feel the need to go mad for new years.

OH is going to a party, I was invited but didn't really want to go because a) finding a sitter would have been a nightmare, b) OH can then stay over there and not drive back and c) I don't have to spend NYD hung over!

I prefer to treat NYE as just another night. I do stay up for the bells and toast in the New Year, but I'm really not one for parties and celebrating the New Year. Tomorrow will probably be a PJ day for us and we'll snaffle chocolate (theres tonnes left over from Christmas) and watch movies.

Off topic, but that is exactly the sort of family I want to have! 5 Under 10 sounds like heaven and hell at the same time ;) Let's hope my body starts playing ball in 2013!

For the past 22 years we have spent NYE with our best friends. My friend and I were both pregnant that year and since have had 6 little ones (now obvs not so little!) so never had a sitter and have taken it in turns to host NYE and spend it with the kids and our OH's. Always fun, down to just one 12 year old staying in with us tonight so will play games and have a nice dinner. Tomorrow will see me making lunch for 13 (all the kids and a couple of bfs/ gfs thrown into the mix now). Love it :)

New Year Eve is what you and your family make it. We've never been one for celebrating the New Year, rather his choice than mine it has to be said.

One thing he does do though is park the car round the back of the house as we do get rather a lot of drunken rowdiness after chucking out time at the pub which usually results in damage to cars.

Personally i think its nice to celebrate the New Year. I think its a time to look forward instead of looking back.

I'm Scottish and a big deal up here, but I absolutely hate it. Pubs that are free to get into for the rest of the year start charging entry, the drinks are more expensive, you can't get a taxi and if by some miracle you do find one of these mythical beasts, they're charging more too. Everyone is out trying to have the best time ever and the thing is that nobody is, but you're not allowed to say that cause its Hogmanay.

Back when I was younger, I grew up in an area where everyone knew each other, the kids were all around the same age and we just went around first footing each other and had parties wherever we ended up. That was good, but now it's about going out and it's just too much pressure.

  • we don't really celebrate bar i'll let the kids stay up a bit later (little one til about 9.30 and older one til she gives in!...shes never made it to midnight yet :p). Hubby hates fireworks as its makes him jumpy and reminds him of his time in the army.
So we'll just play a few games and try and block out the noise!
