Baking your own cakes is much cheaper than shop bought, plus I think they taste better too and it least you know what's going in it!
I bought a very basic electric whisk from Asda for £10. It can't do anything heavy duty like dough or pastry but can handle pancake mixture, whisking cream (I hate doing this by hand!) and cake mixes :T
I didn't need the kmix I bought before Xmas, but it has been fab for making all sorts, cakes, biscuits, pizza dough to name but a few. I'm not always convinced that by the time you have bought ingredients, invested time in making and the fuel cost to cook that they do work out cheaper than shop bought in every case, but I agree you know what's going in them, and cooking / baking is something I enjoy, and I'd like to think it's also a useful life skill.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I agree not always cheaper taking everything into consideration, but yes, you do know what is in them, and very therapeutic4 - 6 month loans

Once you've got a stash of a lot of the ingredients in your cupboard, it can work out fairly cheap. The most expensive recipes I find are ones with a lot of chocolate in or nuts (if you don't already have spare nuts in the cupboard). Victoria Sponge for example is quite cheap to make.0

oh. i'd forgotten all about this thread!
I've decided I don't actually need any clothing for a while, so I'm going to see how long I can go without "treating " myself.
however I do need a chair for living room and new bedding for me.
I'm going to try charity shops for chair and going to use a dye on old bedding
wish me luckLIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
Hi all,
Never used this thread before but I noticed it had been updated today so I thought I'd chip in
1. Regardless of the cost of ingredients for making your own cakes, as Debtfree2014 points out it's very therapeutic and while you're baking you're not going out spending (unless you need ingredients) - for me, boredom is the #1 reason for spending which is why I'm on this site so much now
2. If you're going to bake then go old skool! Get a hand whisk from the poundshop or one of those manual handle whisks from a charity shop which should only be £1-2... Adds an even greater sense of achievement and saves on the leccy!
3. I NEED a haircut because it's been close to six months and as a guy with fine (not thinning ladies) hair it gets greasy more quickly but as I'm having back problems and can't sit for longer than 5 mins without squirming or 10 mins without standing that money goes towards my painkillers prescription... Oh whoo bleedin' hooo...
4. I WANT a PS4 - :rotfl: yeah... did say WANT and not NEED :rotfl:
5. I NEED a new Winter coat as mine is about 10 years old and has been sewn up so many times even the moths have gone off the taste but I WANT to not bother even if it means I look like a tramp LOL besides, it's comfy
G'night folks xxx

Id like to join this thread
I have a house full of clutter and its my aim to clear it on ebay and selling sites this year. I spend way too much in the shops on treats for myself and it needs to stop..ive made myself a little spend diary to keep track of buying what i need not what i want. This thread will keep me motivated

I agree on the haircut - I haven't had mine cut since August (it was a short bob looking a bit wafty now) I used to spend £50 every 6 weeks so a saving of around £180!!
Its looking a bit terrible now but I have promised that I will get it cut once the debt has been cleared lol
Ive also decided to stop wearing make up to work  unless I have client meetings - again saving on make up (I use Clarins super expensive :-/ - i'm counting this as a want instead of a need - the boyf would disagree - people keep asking me if i'm ill :rotfl:2014 DFW

I'm resurrecting this thread with a dilemma, I've been doing boot camp for nearly 2yrs 2 / 3 times a week. So far I've worn one vest top I already had, and two more I bought fairly early on. I've also worn the same two sports bras (not expensive ones) for nearly the same period (had to get toe crop top ones fairy early on and found the ones with proper hooks scraped my back doing sit ups and things).
I can feel it's time to replace my bras. But I also feel it's time to replace my vest tops, the oldest one is really a bit last it's best and the other two are well worn. I sometimes wear the latter two to another class I do weekly. They are pretty faded from weekly washing, esp under the arms. But they have no holes etc. am I being 'needy' replacing them, or is it justifiably time?
Also debating my joggers which are really old, so old the white stripes are grey, but then they get muddy straight away so I'm not sure there's much point to that ATM.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I think this falls into the need category because you are actually wearing the items you are buying and the old ones seem worn out. If the bras have lost their support then it is a definite need for new.0
