Feels like the whole world is off out tonight... I wish I wasn't sick! I've still got no voice, and today I have a nasty sinus headache and blocked nose... I think my weekend plans will be dialled back and I'll probably have a bit more expenditure for some tissues, lemsip and hot curry!0

Ooo, a friend just told me about fat fingers... I feel guilty for using it, but just nabbed myself an alright deal!0

I've been on the look out for smarter work clothes, and really needed a suit jacket for meetings. All the ones I've seen that I liked were going for about £10 plus postage, which was more than I wanted to spend. I got one for £4+ postage...0

Thank you GW. Mortgage application went in today so fingers crossed please!
Have you looked in to buying the place you currently rent?
Doing really well on the Needs not Wants front ATM- funny how an impending mortgage puts a dent in your desire to spend isn't it :rotfl: I played with a little overpayments calculator thingy yesterday as I'd love to be mortgage free by 40 (11 years from now). Turns out, at current rates of interest, we'd need to overpay by £700 pm to make that happen. That would take some serious MS effort (and probably a 'no food' diet and a 'naked' approach to clothing) so that's not gonna happen but I'm already planning to see how close we can get...
Mortgage free would be an amazing feeling - good luck with that! Yes we asked about buying our current place, but it's about 100k over our budget and would need a LOT of work (it's got a real damp problem throughout the whole building). BUT! we saw a seriously amazing flat this morning and are going to put an offer in first thing on Tuesday - very excited!! :T It was a block viewing so we reckon loads of people will put offers in but I think we're in a strong position - 1st time buyers, mortgage agreed in principle, can move straight away.... just hope there won't be a cash buyer making an offer the vendor can't refuse...
Got my fingers & toes crossed for you for the mortgage application - sounds like we're the same age, but I can't imagine being mortgage free by 40, would be a dream :rotfl:£2 Savers Club 2013 £1701%=£54 1%/£5380.62

Today's Graham Norton show on Radio 2 had an interesting Grill Graham agony aunt spot - lots of advice for a young woman who was desperate to get out of rented accommodation and on to the property ladder but despaired of getting together the cash.
I was pleased to hear "money saving websites" (it may have even been this site but they couldn't advertise it) cited as a source of good advice.
Some of the useless advice was funny - "hook up with a bloke, two are cheaper than one" or "marry a footballer" !Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Went to stay in an hotel yesterday, and was fairly smart and picked up a couple of bottles of water for the night ahead. OH was a bit flippant, couldn't be bothered carrying more than he needed. He was very much stung when he ordered 2 1L bottles from the bar, and was hit with a £9 bill  Water might be a need, but that was maybe a bit excessive! I was laughing, and we agreed he's learnt his lesson. If he won't buy a bottle in the shop beforehand, next time he will remember to order a couple of pints of TAP water :rotfl:0

Good luck with the new job elly. Fingers crossed for you mortgage free dreams, I think 50 might be a bit more of a realistic aim for us too. TBH. it will be nice to be mortgage free at some point, but who knows when! Have you started the new job yet elly68?
I've been pretty good this last couple of weeks, and about 90% of things I've bought have been needs. It's helping me to have a need to focus on (new work clothes).
Right now I need to befriend a hairdresser so I can get some money off a haircut! It's in need of some TLC, but I hate spending hairdresser prices to get half an inch trimmed off the end. I wish there was an equivalent of a barber for women, where it's <£10 to get the ends trimmed, for those times when you just need someone who can cut in a straight line...0
