I hate to break it to you Skint_Cat but I would brace myself for new disks as well. You can do this yourself (I have done in the past) but ensure you know what you are doing.
I know how you feel. I overspent a bit at the weekend on food and consequently, we're out of money unless I raid the petrol pot for the rest of the month. I shouldnt have agreed to the McDonalds but the kids were whinging and I was feeling sick. Silly.
On the plus side, there's plenty of food.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

You do know that consumer law allows you to return an item to a store within 7 days with no explanation required? A full refund of your money (not store credit) can be requested.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

wanting_an_easy_life wrote: »re: the popcorn, currently, our only outgoing that is a want is our monthly cinema passes. We are as tight as anything regarding these; We often go and see 2 films back to back (save on fuel) and NEVER buy anything in the cinema. I don't care if we are seen as not playing the game. We always take a bottle of water each though (recycled bottles with filtered tap water though)
I'm an even cheaper 'date' - I rarely have drink in the cinema - bladder of a gnat :rotfl:Skint_Catt wrote: »Feeling despondant today
Realised yesterday that my MOT must be due soon & speaking to DH last night about a grinding noise he thinks I need new brake shoes on the rear. Luckily he can fit them (I love handy men!) but still £27 I hadn't budgeted for (and can't afford to budget for) out of my £20 a week misc spends. On top of hot chocolate & cake I definitely didn't NEED with friends yesterday, but did WANT
I feel like I take two steps forward & three back! Trying to clear a small Christmas debt on my CC without an income is hard enough.
TBH I'd love to give my car up as I don't enjoy driving anymore (too many !!!!!! on the road) but it would take me hours to do the slightest thing plus I'd have to cross 2 dual-carriageways (with the pushchair) to get to anything except neigbouring houses
Sorry - rambling now!
C xx
Big hugs Skin_Catt - I think these things are put there to try us - but on the positive DH is handy so that will save labour costs at the garage, and you do need to have safe car on the road if you're going to run one. xxFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I didn't know about this 7 days - so would this be the case in Sports Direct who only offer refunds for defective items? I'm always put off buying stuff in my local store due to them only offering credit notes and having no changing rooms to try anything on (I have actually considered stripping in the middle of the store to try on some joggers in protest at this before)

If it's got rear brake shoes rather than pads it's more than likely got drums rather than discs. Either way though, £27 is still much cheaper than paying someone like me to do it :rotfl:
Love this thread, am reading every update posted and have need not want in my head everytime I am tempted to stray!Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!0 -

365days - I know exactly what you mean! When I was at school and working part time, if I wanted it, I would buy it. It made birthdays hard, so people gave me money, and I never had much to do with it! At uni, I cherished getting money, but had to uses it for things I 'needed', so now it's nice to get money and use it for things I want. But it is awful when you look around at everything you've squandered money on, that could have meant less of an overdraft!
Welcome pandabunnie - I can sympathise with you! But wish I'd has this mantra a bit sooner!
Welcome pink pepper pot too!
I've technically spent no money yet this week - posted 2 flea bay items, and that's the only money I've shelled out so far! I'm wondering if I can make it to the end of the month on £40 plus my food budget now... Will have to think of free things to do when the OH comes to visit next weekend though, and he probably won't like that...0 -
House of snot here. Both of us have really bad head colds, coughs, throats the works!
I took yesterday off work and was planning on going back today but DS is so poorly I'm off today as well. Today is contracted day so won't lose money there but will lose Tuesdays and it's not looking good for the rest of the week either. At least I don't feel too guilty as they will just get someone else in to do it, but obviously I won't get paid.
Anyhoo........Yesterday after reading athread on here I cut my own hair. It's actually not too bad. I went for the 'unicorn' method. Basically just make a ponytail at the front of your head-unicorn style and cut off what you want. I have long, thick wavy hair so knew whatever I did would be easy to blend in. Saved a bit of cash there.
Was also fiddling around with figures yesterday and realised that I was spending around £300 a month extra before tightening my belt. I thought WOW what a lot of money, but actually it's only £10 a day. When looked at like that it is easy to see where it went....coffee here, magazine there, sandwiches, extra petrol for extra (pointless) journeys, t shirt in with the food shop, etc etc.
In my mind thats a caravan holiday long weekend a month!!!

They dont HAVE to accept non-faulty goods, or not fit for purpose if bought on site, however :
Most retailers impose time limits for returning non-faulty products, such as 28 days, but many extend around Christmas for example, so you might have more time than you think.
If you paid by credit card, you also have extra protection
Most retailers have policies which stipulate that they will accept non-faulty returns, as long as items are unused and in perfect condition with their undamaged original packaging
If you bought the item via the internet or mail order, you have the Distance Selling Regulations to fall back on as well which allows a no-quibble exchange or refund within that time limit.
You said that you bought the Dyson the day before yesterday...that's well within any imposed limit that Ive ever seen. As long as you have the original packaging, the receipt etc, there is absolutely no reason why they wouldnt take it back - but it must be unused and in a re-saleable condition.
P.S had to go out for business this morning so I bought a coffee and a coissant at starbucks for £5.90. Mea culpa.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
