Term Time Holidays???

Actually the onus is on the person making the original claim. .
No it isnt. There is no link until a link is proven and in any event the first claim on this thread was the link between attainment and attendance. I have merely asked for that link to be demonstrated.
Furthermore, I have backed the claim up with a 55 page report that also says there is no link.
You are quite literally talking bobbins, I sincerely hope that you are not one of these people entrusted with educating our children, or that if you are your the dopper that they get to organise the crayons in colour coded order.0 -
There was no sarcasm.0

As I have said, my comments were quite deliberate to highlight a point.
It seemed ok to distort information (absense versus attainment) to imply a link between term time holidays and attainment then use a generalisation of p1$$ed up around the pool on a cheap holiday to imply that these parents dont care about their kids to further imply that they are poor parents.
Its all ok when it was working the other way. Now that these people have had a dose of their own medicine, they dont like it
What people? You have made generalisations and slated all teachers based on one or two posters? Why not direct your comments straight to them?0 -

"All" is a quantity that you have put on it. I have never said that all teachers are anything, it is your overactive imagination at work again busy adding things to my comments that I havent even claimed.
Look at it another way, I havent directed them at you, so why should you feel offended. What you have done is assumed that I have directed it to all teachers, and then took offence at something that I havent even done. If you do the things that I have had a swipe at then the comments are at you, if you dont then the comments are not aimed at you and you have no need to feel offended by them.0 -
A few points
1) I know in the school bubble being a teacher carries some kind of authority, however beyond the impressionable 4 year old's it takes much more to influence others.
2) they aint your kids therefore it is nothing to do with you
3) Teachers despite what they may think are not experts on kids / parenting nor are they lifestyle coaches and advisers.
4) Teachers should avoid commenting on parents taking their kids out of school in term times for financial reasons given that they are more than happy to disrupt my child's education for fun and profit when it suits.
5) It is your job, hence why you are expected there. The last time I looked my child was not paid to go to school
HTH
Points 3 and 4 certainly seem directed at all teachers. That's what it means when you say 'teachers....' without qualifying that by adding 'some' before it or 'who have posted on this thread' after it.0 -

That graph shows unauthorised absences.
Not all time taken off for holidays is unauthorised, infact unauthorised ansences will mostly be kids who bunk off or have parents that don't give a crap so don't care whether the kids go in or not.
If that graph said unauhorised absences from children who take term time off for holidays, it would hold some weight.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Couple of points that have been raised:
1. Teachers don't have any special training for extended periods of time. SEN is covered in 2 days during a degree.
2. Post-16 they don't get paid to go to school. EMA went 12m+ ago.
3. You want an adults-based holiday? Then don't pick AI in a family resort.
4. Exam schedules at GCSE level are available 12m in advance. If the LEA didn't move holidays around to their advantage then last spring bank holiday hundreds of parents wouldn't have got caught out.:p
5. Teachers work 37 weeks plus a few days (4 i think in our LEA) a year. It's been that way since year dot. Most people's jobs have changed within the economic climate. Since my eldest has grown up, my OH has had 3 contract changes to working hours.......things that couldn't have been predicted at the time. Its not always that simple for people to *not pick* their particular career choice.Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0
