you just need to phone them and get them to correct the reg, and then pay the fine. It may be that there was human error (another plonker with similar reg as you drove off without paying). If it's a manual system this is highly likely - perhaps a clerk had a spreadsheet or printout of all the offenders and selected the wrong line as he/she was scanning the sheet of offenders.

You're perfectly within your right to phone them and get the reg corrected before paying. Tell them what the correct reg of your vehicle is and then pay online or over the phone.

At this time of the year office will be closed, but i'm sure the 7 days deadline with be 7 office hours, but even if not they'll probably extend the dates due to the holiday period.

You shouldn't pay if the reg details have not been corrected. It will muddle things up

1)my mum payed an electricity bill which was supposed to be her neighbours by accident (posted to wrong house) - but neighborus were in good terms and neighbour payed her in cash,

    2) another time I was on holiday with a group of friends and we accidently swapped keys when we checked in, my name was on his and his name was on mine - he drank a lot of merch from the mini bar and racked up a bill but because we were in the wrong rooms (his room was assigned to me, and my room was assigned to him). We had a bit of a squabble - fell out on holiday and he rushed off and jumped onto the coach at checkout.

Sooooooo.. correct the reg details (the mixup may have also got the amounts wrong too). Then pay.

Just paid it online after listening to your words of advice/abuse.
Thanks anyway, don't see why you had to resort to playground insults. I genuinely forgot to pay in 7 days.
Thanks anyway, nice community you seem to have here.......

Playground insults? You were the one trying to wangle a free tank of fuel.

Hi everyone, I was in town when a little old lady collapsed and as she slipped into unconsciousness she dropped her purse, with £85 in it, so i picked it up 'for safe keeping'.
She is now out of hospital and wants her purse back. She says she knows it's me and includes the fact that i was wearing a blue jumper ; but mine was turquoise.
Can you tell me how I can get to keep said purse and not give it back

    Thanks in anticipation

I would burn the blue/turquoise jumper and deny ever owning one.

Also might be worth shaving off all your hair to make it difficult for the police to identify you.

I agree. A turquoise jumper is always best burned.
  • If he does get done for costs etc then should consult the bankruptcy forum to see if he can further shaft everyone else.

    Thanks for the replies.

Let's say for example somebody went into the petrol station who knew me and used my name and address and put down a number plate similar to mine.
I get a letter through post with wrong reg on it. Why should I pay? The petrol station should have come outside and recorded the vehicle reg properly or checked camera to get vehicle reg.

You will have been asked to declare and check the car registration on the form you signed when you promised to pay for the fuel within a week

Also remember that signing that form is not a credit agreement.

The last time I forgot to bring my card with me (I'd changed trousers just before going out), I gave them the number anyway from memory and they tried and succeeded in processing it as cardholder not present

  • Easy money for the debt collector, i expect they were hoping it would go to court in order to escalate.

Just out of interest if anyone knows, would someone like the OP in this case' name and address appear on a linked debt collectors index system at his stage, ie would this episode appear in the notes presented to a judge at any future hearing for a similar claim?
