Next time it happens you may not be so lucky, they may call the police instead... they will be sure to record your details correctly.

They will have CCTV remember. An administrative error isn't going to get you out of this one.

Why should I pay? The petrol station should have come outside and recorded the vehicle reg properly or checked camera to get vehicle reg.

Sure, why would you need to pay for something you've not only obtained, but faithfully promised to pay for? Next time you "forget your card" I hope they impound your car and don't release it until you go get the money. In cash, of course, because we can all see you have no integrity.

Thanks again for the advice guys.
I think I'll risk it and get them to send me a correct bill.
Anything rather than pay up. :T

Their CCTV which they would have kept is proof enough.

This is probably going to cost you hundreds if you goto court..

So part of the reg is right. So they can put that down to a typo.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • I wouldn't have thought the reg number would be that important anyway. It's the OP who is liable for the fuel, the CCTV will confirm it was him that dispensed it, I'm not sure it actually matters that much which car he put it in.
  • Just noticed on the letter the date they wrote the letter was the 20th December.
The date I am said to have acquired the fuel in the letter is 26th December.
It was actually in November sometime.
Another typo? Or do they basically have a completely flawed case against me unless they still have CCTV of me?

Yes another typo (and given the dates one that wont even be considered), it doesn't matter, you'll still have to pay.

So far, with only two typos, there are no flaws at all.

You have filled out and signed a form acknowledging you owe money for the petrol. Did they also note your ID down eg your driving licence number?

    Thanks for the replies.

Let's say for example somebody went into the petrol station who knew me and used my name and address and put down a number plate similar to mine. .
    You forgot a bit......

Let's say for example somebody went into the petrol station who knew me and used my name and address and put down a number plate similar to mine and they just happened to be my exact doppelgänger as per multiple cctv coverage and wore the exact same clothes as I'm willing to wear in court to deny this charge.

Go on, argue it was your twin, or you are part of identical triplets, the government cloned you and is using your clone for mischievous tasks. Perhaps the 'person' whom did not pay was part of some alien duplication experiment on human interaction.

We all here believe it really was not you, because you sound so plausible, and so will the courts, so don't worry!

YOU didnt have payment with you
Instead of impounding your car or calling the police, they let YOU pay them within 7 days.
    YOU 'forgot'
YOU made them incur fees of getting a solicitor / debt collection firm involved, and now YOU are going to drag it out further by NOT paying??? :rotfl:

Why not simply correct the details on the paperwork, photocopy them and pay the bill??

They will push this, make you incur more fees, and if it goes to court, you'll have to pay the original amount and all the fees anyway.

People like you are the reason this country is in the state its in - YOU are at fault, but are trying to weedle out of it instead of taking ownership for YOUR problem.

I can imagine the huffing and puffing you would have done if they had impounded your car or called the police, yet they tried to be helpful and this is what they get??
