Just dropping in to say I have just worked out how much my lunches cost to make (per portion - homemade soup 35p, bread bun 30p, slice of homemade banana loaf 25p, piece of fuit 30p & biscuit bar 12p = £1.32). My shop bought sandwiches were £1.70 alone!
Lexxi - Five Spice/Cajun spice is nice if you don't have curry powder too.0 -
An omlette wrap sounds like a good idea! I just bought some free range eggs in Morrisons reduced to 9p - sell by date today but use by still a week away so I'll give this a go.
I also got a rotisserie chicken half price, gonna have some for dinner and use the rest for lunches and dinner tomorrow. Will make the carcass into stock (by boiling it with water, celery, carrot, onion and pepper) and use that for risotto or something in the week maybe?
I'll do chicken pesto mayo for sandwiches, but I'll try to do it right this time, you only need a very small amount of mayo and I usually end up making too much, lol!0 -
>.> I have spent £3 in 8 working days on lunch. I have also had the black death for the last 3 weeks so I haven't been eating properly anyway.
Probably shouldn't count this under "good financial planning"... :rotfl:0 -
I made a crustless quiche/frittata thing last night with mushrooms and some feta I found lurking at the back of the fridge. It is yummy, two pieces left so that is Mon and Tues taken care of. I have also made some bread with Italian herbs in the bread maker - will probably be used by husband and kids before I get to it, but would make sandwiches a bit more interesting. I may make a vegetable loaf to use slices of in sandwiches too - getting lots of ideas from here! I have two bags of quinoa to use up - may make rice type salads to take too.Grocery Challenge (2 adults 2 kids)

Evening all!
Nice to see you're doing well. I'm not able to logon often but its good to see this thread is going strong
I'm no cook, but made some sort of pasta, red kidney beans with chilli sauce combo for work tomorrow. It doesnt taste too bad considering I just threw everything together into the cooking pot.
For snacks, I'll have a banana, apple and kiwi fruit in my work bag instead of buying my usual tasty carrot cake which is my daily treat .0 -

I've managed a whole week with spending nothing at work. I've said ill do this many times before but never managed it. Saved £17 so far.
I've just had sandwiches but I'm going to try something new this week. If there's any successes ill let you know.Make £10 a day in May- £90/£1500 -
Sorted stuff in the kitchen so it's packed lunch ready!
So ryvitas, hot chocs, snacks etc are in a basket. Then chilled stuff eg scotch eggs, cheese spread etc all sit on the bottom of the fridge. Partly packed my lunch for tomorrow (fruit and snacks).
IDEAS:
I've just thought of another wrap filling. A version of duck from the takeaway. Leftover roast chicken with a smidge of hoisin sauce, and some cucumber sticks in a wrap.
Have we got buying (or making) muffins in a pack of 4 and freezing them to take out of the freezer for snacks on our list?
Now hungry!! :jDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
